I though the abstract work was stunning. A lot of people believe abstract work is a cheap way to create but, it takes real skill to make abstract art that is of a shape, texture, and color scheme that is pleasing to view. You nailed it.

Some people just don’t get the concept of experimentation. This is what makes a real artist. I love those two abstract pages, the colours, composition 💕 All of your sketches are beautiful and I can’t stand people being mean. Thanks for sharing this sketchbook tour, Minnie! Looking forward to the next one 😊 Take care.

I agree, these pages are lovely. The person making those highly judgmental and inaccurate comments was being hurtful and did not represent anyone else's opinion. She (or he) not only showed their lack of education and artistic integrity, but also their lack of social etiquette.
@RadishTheFool4 жыл бұрын
Well said, I totally agree. Also, sketchbooks are so personal. If someone shares it with us, we should either be thankful and supportive, or quietly move on to the next artist if it's not our jam. To judge it at all, let alone so irresponsibly harshly, shows a severe lack of simple human empathy.
@sammirureka4 жыл бұрын
I have to agree. Minnie it doesn't matter if one person didn't like something you did. Right off the bat you said you loved the way those two pages looked, and I'm biased because so do I. The most important thing is that you enjoyed making them and you enjoyed the outcome. Screw other people's opinions!

I reeaaally hope that person's comment didn't put you off exploring and expressing yourself in a way you might not have done before. It's YOUR art, can't please them all. I love your work and I think that those exploration pieces are fascinating and beautiful. You are epic! :)

This is super weird timing because i literally just ordered a moleskine sketchbook last week, and it arrived a few days ago! I havent even sketched anything up on it yet, i was too scared in case i would mess it up! After seeing yours though, i feel a lot more at ease to just dive into it and start making art without stressing too much. Also that painting of your cat is so cute, i love it

It's so sad how easily a negative comment from one person can completely change your perspective on a piece of work, especially one you were so proud of. I know when I let my mum flip through my sketch book and she points out a painting she doesn't like, I always obsess over that comment even though she didn't intend it in a nasty way. All your work is so inspirational, especially the experimental pieces because it shows how you're challenging yourself to grow as an artist and that is something to be admired, not criticised. Thank you for sharing your art with us! xx

One way to get over the fear of messing up my sketchbook is to gesso over the offending page and do a gouache painting over it. Your sketchbook is beautiful and I love the variety of inspirations. The sheep (?) skull is magnificent!

in regards to the negative comment you received on those paintings, i personally liked them a lot. they might not strike a cord with everyone and that's okay, we all have different preferences, but that doesn't make them any less valuable of a piece. to expect our work to please everyone all the time, even ourselves, is an impossible expectation. i like the route you're going with your sketchbooks. stepping out of comfort zones is what helps us evolve. i used to watch a lot of sketchbook tours and always wondered how people made them look so good. i felt like i could never compete, but i've started to realize, my fear of ruining a sketchbook hinders me from developing my skills. i stick to my comfort zones because i know it's what i can draw, but i find that i'm happier when i produce work that i'm not used to because that's when i can really see myself evolving. i guess it's better going in without any expectations and just draw because it's what you like to do.

You bring education and inspiration to me and I am sure to others, and I can't thank you enough for giving me your time, skill and effort. Hello to Ozzie and Tiarrie (sorry if I spelled it wrong) Hope everyone is well and happy.

I've been following this channel for a few years now, and what I've loved most is how much she emphasizes appreciating the process and striving constantly to grow. Like if she has a criticism (her own) of her work, she doesn't sulk, but brainstorms how she might approach something differently in the future, and really studies/practices to build a new skill or medium. This philosophy of accepting the rough and imperfect is so beautiful and not something often seen in social media. As someone who enjoys making art but doesn't intend to making it my career, I appreciate this approach to art :)

Love seeing all the experimentation in your sketchbook. Always makes me want to break out my own sketchbook and just play with different things. I agree some people get too caught up in how everything 'needs' to look but I don't think they keep in mind that they're looking at another artist's work from a different perspective so of course they're going to look at it differently to their own. I always think whatever a sketchbook page looks like, it's always engaging when it's full of experimentation and different mediums. It's very freeing to not worry about what the end result will look like.

I have been trying to get a bit more in to the ‘flowy’/experimental kind of painting/drawing lately, and really find that spread (the monet-like one) particularly lovely and inspiring 🥰 I saw one of your videos back in january and it inspired me to start sketching again after not having drawn for about 10 years. I decided to challenge myself to fill out an old sketchbook that really only had a few color studies in it. Now it’s completely filled out, and im halfway through a new one. So thank you. 🥰 I really do hope you will look at that spread next time and remember how you inspire others to have fun with painting.

Wow, some people are just too rude and should be be banned from social media until they learn either to be constructive in their criticism or to just shut up. This was my first look at your channel and I love your sketchbook. Seeing other people's failures and experiments as well as their successes is so helpful to those of use who are trying to improve. It also shows that practice really really helps, and that artists whose work we admire have got good at art because they work at it!
