Quite daunting this one Toby - definitely one to take in small steps and take time over it but the result certainly looks very worthwhile

This looks fun. I’m still trying to get better mixing colors and just letting the water color do it’s thing. This method seems like a good way to do that and not be confined by the inital lines you draw.

Sagenhaft! 🤩 Diesmal in umgekehrter Reihenfolge.

I am so happy that your channel crossed my path today Sunday Sept 10th. I am a beginner in watercolour and pen. this is my 3rd video that I have watched today, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of watching you create your loose urban sketching. I felt yesss, I have those all of the pens you have mentioned , i have the watercolours and the brushes….My sketching is soo bad and really sketchy…you have inspired me that all i need to remember are the shapes, keep it loose and I love how the use of your pen brought the whole painting together …fabulous, grateful thanks from New Zealand, a great day getting spare moments of this warm spring day to view your videos…😊

Once again another great vid, I am learning so much from your excellent instructional techniques, today I really value the paint application, blending of colours, foreground/background methods, and the use of the negative spaces (I never quite know where to put them). Thanks again Toby.

Wow! I love this brave technique. I'd love to know how you'd approach painting the row of brightly coloured houses of Tobermory, on the Scottish island of Mull. I'll be visiting there this summer and intend to have a go at a line and wash sketch of them when I'm there. Maybe I should try your technique of watercolour first? Would love to see your approach... 😊

Hi Sue - tutorial on Tobermory coming out today and a second one in a couple of days too. The first is a technique like this :) and then the second will be a super quick loose sketch in my 'normal' style. You can find it here if you want to check it out before it's published :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJrUiYyJZc-BobM

I love your work, Toby. I have a basic but important question about the amount of water you use: How do you know how much water to add/use -- how do you know when the consistency is right? I used to use too little color, and now i think I often use too much water (wet on wet). Any advice/general guidelines on how to successfully eyeball it?
@TobySketchLoose Жыл бұрын
It's a learning process mostly, if you have pools of water then you've used too much, if it dries quicker than 2-3 minutes then not enough. You want the issue too have a wet shiny look but no puddles

Hi Toby, your videos have given me the confidence to start sketching with results I am quite pleased with. I have a question about your choice of paint; your watercolour choice seems quite advanced and a little expensive, is it possible to get similar results with something simple such as my recently purchased Winsor & Newton Cotman Sketchers Pocket Box? Thanks again for the brilliant videos.
@TobySketchLoose Жыл бұрын
Yes Cotman colours are a very good starting point - I would suggest a slow progression towards professional colours as you gain confidence and start to know what you really like
