Hello Emma, just the right time spent on each exercise. I have been “playing” with watercolors for about three months, my problem is that I didn’t find you easily enough. I started by following people who were doing landscaping, flowers, etc. so let’s just say that I got on the wrong foot!!!. I have been very uptight about the entire process because I expect SO much of myself, now that I know better, and thanks to you, I will start where I should have. Just the right amount of information for the first episode. VERY clearly explained. And my FAVORITE thing about it was the number of times you said to just play, just put marks on paper, etc. You set the bar low, it doesn't have to be a work of art today! - giving me permission to ignore the Type A person who wants to do everything perfectly, the first time. (you even said to let go of being perfect...pretty sure that was just for me!). Thanks so much, I'm so excited for the rest of the videos.

I just recently got into water colors. The first two paintings I did were absolutely amazing landscapes but they were using a reference that someone else painted. The next three things I tried were a flop. Then I used someone else's painting as a reference and it was amazing. I tried again to do my own and failed. I found your beginner series and I'm so thankful! I don't understand how I can use a reference photo and create beautiful art but can't do anything on my own. I'm going to go through your lessons and hopefully I can learn how to paint my own art.

Really enjoyed your first episode Emma. I will have a go at this once I have purchased some watercolour paints. Do you have any tips on remembering the name of the colours once you have decanted them into a palette?

I drew a simple drawing of my pallet and painted a sample of each paint color in order, and then labeled each color with the paint brand and name. So I have a simple diagram of my paints and colors.

@@susanbrown4420 I do the same but I don’t really label them as I only work with primaries + black to simplify my life, i mixed the paints fresh out of the tube in the wells and made samples of each color. It helps me with understanding color theory (especially with warm and cool tones to primaries and how they mix together, also if one primary overpowers the other, in which case teaches me how much paint to use to balance it out) and saves some money as well as I can test out a brand without breaking the bank! Currently M Graham as I was curious about the rewetting potential due to honey content.

@@susanbrown4420 in the paint description, especially on the brand’s website or by looking up the pigment name, it’s often mentioned if it’s a cool or warm tone. Another example to tell if it’s cool or warm, phtalocyanine blue generally has a (red shade) or (green shade) mention.
