I have a 1996 kawasaki time capsule. Less than 30 hours. Been going amazing Today while riding I felt that slippage, lack of power. Assumed wear ring but seems like kawi’s aren’t as common to need them. Putted back and loaded it then noticed some weeds and a piece of bag wedges in my ride plate. Before I go ordering parts. Could it just need to be cleared out and inspected? Not sure how common these issues are on the kawasakis.
@watercraftjournal2 жыл бұрын
Kawis don't have plastic wear rings. It could be a bunch of different things.
@JoeMaxFpv2 жыл бұрын
@@watercraftjournal I dropped it off at the kawi dealer. Hoping it’s just remnants of the plastic bag wrapped around impeller. I looked in from ride plate and Impeller looked brand new. So hope it’s just junk where it doesn’t belong.

Your channel is amazing and very informative! I just bought two GTR215s without water testing and finally put them in today. One was amazing - the other didn’t get above 32 or 5400 rpm’s. Engine sounds strong but all felt rattley. Do you think it’s the wear ring?! Does that cause lack of pure acceleration and terrible turning response?

How many hours on the other one?

@@watercraftjournal they both have 100 going in to yesterday. I’ll add that outside the water I could rev up past 7000 rpm but just absolutely bogs in water and loses all momentum in turns

Yes, however your impeller can also be chipped from foreign debris. Your intake grate helps, but rocks and ropes tend to do damage. Especially if it’s repeatedly abused. - Owner of TC Watercraft And Desert Mobile Repair. Yucaipa CA.

@@tylerclark582 How can I know what the proper diagnosis is then for a fix? I've looked in both intake and lifted the IBR to inspect and no signs of anything stuck. The impeller is also in fine working order IMO
@tylerclark5822 жыл бұрын
@@thomasberezansky95 the only true way to tell is inspection both visual and with a digital caliber. First removing any trim, steering or reverse cable off the nozzle of the jet pump. Second removing the water lines both too and from the motor, yamahas also have a streamer to disconnect. From there you need to take off the 4 (long) bolts holding the nozzle to the jet pump off. You’ll see from there the jet pump slides off. You might have to take out a bolt or two and another house or whatever I may have left out. But that’s the process for most skis. Once it’s apart it’s usually another 3 bolts inside to pull the wear ring. But first looking at the side closest to the intake you want to see if that inner lip of the ring is significantly scuffed. Sometimes that’s the only part of the ring that is, and it causes extreme issues. Usually gap clearance between a wear ring and an impeller is somewhere around a half millimeter. Anything more and it leads to pump cavitation. PRO TIP: Removing the ride plate by jacking the ski up might make this entire process easier. However please secure the ski so nobody gets hurt.

They are lefthand threaded. So the harder you hit that throttle the tighter they will tighten up...

What does a healthy Yamaha wear ring look like? Mine, new to Yamaha, looks scored like a piston cylinder was just honed. Prop edges are perfect and tight agains the wear ring.

Unlikely anything important- nothing more than an inspection cover.

if you have just repaired the propeller bearings and the everything is fine , if the wear ring is not fully smooth Is it fine to ride until a new one arrives? I take it ,that it would just lower performance not damage anything else?
@watercraftjournal2 жыл бұрын
Sorta. The oblong oscillation will exacerbate the damage and further injure the drivetrain. Best repair it all.

How many hours can someone expect out of wear ring on a Yamaha or Seadoo given normal use (no shallow water)?
@watercraftjournal3 жыл бұрын
Yamahas have stainless steel rings, which don't require changing unless there's signs of severe damage. We've heard of plastic Sea-Doo rings lasting upwards to 150hrs. It all depends on the degree of wear.

@@watercraftjournal If the plastic Sea-Doo rings last up to 150 hours that basically covers the average life expectancy of a Sea-Doo engine .Now i know why Yamahas have long lasting stainless steel rings!!!

Again, 150-hours isn’t the standard (some fail within 20 hours) - it all depends on whether the ski is operated safely and correctly.

Took my 2021 sea doo gti 130 today I had it in eco mode had a small rattling noise at the rear end but when I change it to sport mode the rattling noise and vibration became more intense. Could this be the impeller and the ring?
@watercraftjournal3 жыл бұрын
The impeller wouldn't make that kind of rattle against the plastic wear ring. That sounds like a pump bearing but your ski is really too new for that kind of failure. Are you sure you're just not misidentifying the exhaust noise?
@arturocordoba62063 жыл бұрын
