There's a big difference. The FZR feels far more planted and a bit more "tippy" but that is because of its sportier, soft-chined hull. The GP hull feels flatter, rides much more "on top" of the water vs. the FZR and has a much "snappier" hair pin turn at WOT. You'll like it.

Fast skis, plenty of people well over 80 with them on flat water. FX Cruiser or Ultra will outrun it on rough water (i.e. a typical weekend with boat chop everywhere). Also prefer fiberglass hull on the Ultra
@watercraftjournal4 жыл бұрын
That used to be the case, yes. But Ultras have been surpassed in offshore racing by GPs and FXs 10-fold (apart from Pastorello's Mark Hahn setup). The AquaX results sheet prove this.
@fzr10009814 жыл бұрын
In flatter conditions they do ok, but just look at the two hulls. For heavy chop (2-3 ft+) little question which one is superior, and again the fiberglass hulls are more durable. The "10 fold" is more a reflection of Yamaha's ongoing support for the sport and deeper pockets, Kawasaki hasn't done much at all. Until recently at least the MH was dominated by Ultras (for many years)
@fzr10009814 жыл бұрын
"Kawasaki’s Ultra retains the industry’s most aggressive deadrise and the heftiest weight, giving the craft both incredible rough water comfort (ie. insulation) as well as instinctual handling and proven tracking. This all comes at a cost, and the 310-horsepower Kawasaki’s fuel consumption while getting the craft to plane is substantial." watercraftjournal.com/understanding-what-makes-a-good-rough-water-hull-design/

There are so many morons are various forums chasing speed on glass but all that means exactly nothing on a typical packed weekend with unpredictable boat chop. Ultra is still king in those conditions.

Watercraft Journal, I just broke in a new 2021 GP 1800R SVHO and noticed on "cold starts" (ski has not been started for a day or two) it will idle rough for a few seconds and sometimes shuts off, requiring a second start. After idling for a few seconds it settles out, and runs smooth with no additional starting issues during a day of riding. Do you know if this is common for the 1800 series engines? Thanks.

Depending upon air temperature, elevation and battery charge it's common for big displacement engines of every kind.

How is the auto trim? How would the 2021 compare 2020 with Riva GEN2 Intake grate?
@watercraftjournal4 жыл бұрын
It requires a bit of a learning curve. And frankly, we find that most programs that think for the rider, aren't smart enough. The new intake grate IS the RIVA G2 grate, so you're good there. The difference is the machined housing and new re-aligned weight distribution.
@Steven-xj2rf4 жыл бұрын
@@watercraftjournal I think I heard the housing could be added to the 2020s. The weight distribution is an interesting thing. The rider is going to impact that so much it might not really net anything. Sounds like the auto trim will need some work.
@watercraftjournal4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can machine your transom plate - you don't need to swap it out with an old one. (Racers have been doing it for years.) You don't need the auto trim, don't fret. The biggest issue is the weight distribution. You're just not going to replicate that easy.

You can get rid of that visibility safety spout for 9.00. It is water from pump not engine. I did it on mine in 10 minutes. Closed loop does not work as good as open. Heatsink in supercharged engines with/without mods is bad. Besides the fact that you can't mod ride plate for handling improvements.

Mind you, Yamahas can tow and fish too, they just don't dedicate a whole unit to one job. You can accessorize any FX or VX to be a "fishing ski."

Seadoos have a carbon seal that fails. Then they sink! Closed loop cooling is not necessarily better either. There are pros and cons with every brand, however to say they are better than Yamaha/Kawasaki? Seadoo are not as reliable and don't handle as well, but the ergolock seating is awesome. The design of Seadoo is nice too. I think the best would be a Kawasaki Ultra hull, Seadoo top deck with ergolock, and Yamaha engine/pump. 😁🙂
