Really enjoyed your video and learned quite a bit about banded birds. I moved from Alabama to Iowa in Sept of 1995. I would fly back home from Omaha. They canceled my flight because of the “grand passage” you were talking about! It was crazy! I pulled over on interstate 80 before I got to Council Bluff and looked up to what I think was millions of geese. I have never seen anything like it. A farmer walked up to me and said that I wasn’t from around there. I said no sir-I’m from Alabama. He just laughed.

Very nice video. Your mounts are first rate. Thanks for the duck and geese info. I ve got some knowledge I d like to share. The first duck banded and recovered was a black duck banded by Jack Miner who also established the first successful refuge on the Canadian side of Lake Ontario. He was a market gunner that noticed the dwindling number of ducks and geese. He started banding ducks and geese and being a very religous person , included a bible quote on each band. He called his refuge " the mission" and the birds "Missionaries " because they carried the word of God on their migrations. I was fortunate to take a missionary years ago that had been banded two days prior and made it to Coastal N.C. in that time. It was the only bird banded and taken on the Atlantic flyway that year. Again thanks for sharing.

Pretty interesting facts on the duck speed. Teal may be slower when traveling in the air, but I think what makes them hard to hit is they move so much faster down low compared to other ducks like a mallard. They have an unpredictable flight pattern dropping in on decoys, whereas mallards seem to lock in and just float over the decoys a lot of the time.

Since you asked. My first duck: a drake black duck I jumpshot out of a creek about 40 yards. Hit him on my 3rd shot in a blizzard with about 5 inches of snow on the ground. Took me a half hour to find and all I saw was two bits of orange feet sticking out of the snow as the blizzard had practically covered him all up. Proudly on my wall for the past few years.

I appreciate the fact info on different species. I have to say that the birds are much more beautiful alive than dead. Also as a wildlife photographer I say capturing a prized pic or vid of these amazing birds feeding, mating or hen with chicks is far more difficult and challenging than to shoot them.
