Looking for the Waterfall near Waterhouses in the Staffordshire Peak District. Early Spring, 2021.
I'd promised myself I would further investigate a "waterfall" sign I'd noticed on my way back home after visiting Blore pastures near Ilam in the Staffordshire Peak District in early spring of this year. It was road signed "waterfall 1 mile" just off the Leek to Ashbourne road (A523) and it peeked my interest so I decided there and then I would return.
I didn't think it would be as early as the very next day, but hey ho, make hay while the sun shines!
On my quick return and after driving a mile or so up Waterfall Lane just off the A523 in Waterhouses village I safely parked up my car off road very near to a sign which clearly stated WATERFALL. Now I could begin my one man quest to find this "waterfall" that had intrigued me so much it had me returning to investigate it the very next day.
Anyways, here I am now. So, where's this "waterfall"?
It doesn't make sense to me as I've gone uphill for the mile or so since I came off the main A523 road, and I can't see any obvious signs of a waterfall even though I'm right next to a sign which clearly says WATERFALL on the side of the road.
Putting 2 and 2 together thinking waterfall's aren't normally situated halfway up an hill unless there are other hills in the immediate area, I decided to start walking off road through what appeared to be a public footpath going downbank towards some open fields just past a small farmholding.
This seemed very promising at first because I had been informed by a local lady walking her dog that I was heading towards a water source and if there was any waterfall around this area to be seen it would make more sense it would be at the bottom of this hill feeding off the water source draining off from these same hills.
Unfortunately for me I did not get to see any waterfall on this day in this area even though it was clearly stated on the roadside "WATERFALL ONE MILE", which was a bit disappointing to say the least.
However, it was not all in vain as I did get to capture some interesting countryside sounds on the day along with some nice video footage of the surrounding area whilst on my brief walk through trying to find the elusive waterfall near Waterhouses in the Staffordshire Peak District.
Look out for and listen out for cows, goats, sheep, cockrels, all coming from the farm, plus the sounds of birds and bee's in the open fields and surrounding trees, shrubs, and bushes.
Sorry there's no watefall. Not what I could find on this particular day.
Oh, and before I forget, here's the KZbin video link below to the Blore pastures walkabout near to Ilam....

I did the same years ago on my motorbike, but ended up in a field full of a 12" deep layer of mud... Not happy!

I went there about 30 years ago looking for a waterfall, never found it, I think it’s just the name of the village.

I think you're correct there Bjorn. Although I wouldn't go as far as saying it's a village, not even a hamlet (small village). More like a name for the area which has a couple of houses and farms (small holdings) about the area. Thanks for looking in and commenting.

@@northstaffscountrywalks - It’s been over 30 years since I went, can’t remember much about it now, I think there was a pub though, is that still there?

@@bjorntoulouse7523 Yes, there's still a pub there. It's called the RED LION INN, on Townend Lane, which is about a 5 minutes walk away from where I did the video shots. I don't think it gets too busy at all as it's a bit out of the way off the beaten tracks.

There isn't a Waterfall, it's the Village name.

Although I didn't see a village as such Mark, I did work out that there wasn't an actual waterfall to be seen after walking around the area and vlogging it for an hour or so. Thanks for the comment.
