When we harvest breeder bins, we will leave the cocoons in the bedding, then put the worms into fresh bedding to start the process over again. We use mortar trays, though, and I can only get two trays worth combined into one. I do tend to use a bit more bedding in my trays than you do, though. I LOVE the volume of cocoons you have in your trays! It looks like they are doing superbly well.
@TheGardenAndWormLady Жыл бұрын
So do you sell your adult worms and put the cocoons on the shelf and wait for them to hatch? Or do you setup your adult worms and put the cocoon trays to hatch then go for sale? Thank you by the way😊
@jerrycallison6125 Жыл бұрын
@@TheGardenAndWormLady At present, we put the breeders back into the system and put the cocoons into another area for hatching and then grow out areas. We aren't selling any at the moment because we need more castings for sale. We're still in the beginning stages of our business (eighteen months in), and we are focused on growth rather than worm sales.

That was super fun to watch! I think how you handled it was fine. Did you have a total weight of all of the worms? If I recall, they were a 1/4 lb each to start, so I would assume they were maybe 1/2 lb each this time? Have a great weekend!
@TheGardenAndWormLady Жыл бұрын
It was a little more than a quarter pound each portion

In the beginning of the video you were filling your sprayer with what looks like regular tap water. Is your water filtered to remove the chlorine and other stuff that's added to tap water? Love your videos , I've gained something from each one I've watched being a new worm caretaker on a lot smaller scale.
@TheGardenAndWormLady Жыл бұрын
Yes our water is extremely filtered with a sophisticated system that does the whole house. Our daughter needs pure water so the worms get the same benefit 😂 If you use tap water let it sit a few days uncovered before you use it. Any chlorine evaporates

@TheGardenAndWormLady Жыл бұрын
@@EricsWormPlayground if I’m going to keep the bedding at about 3 inches for breeders I prefer the smaller ones 20 x 15 x 5. I only put a quarter pound of worms in it so it’s perfect and a lot easier to handle. I like the giant mortar bin for harvesting.

I have cedar chips. Have you ever tried them?
@TheGardenAndWormLady9 ай бұрын
I have not, but I’m not sure about them because of the cedar oil or a aroma in it
@townbell22489 ай бұрын
@@TheGardenAndWormLady i used a pellet that smelled of cedar at the top and it made the pill bugs leave. I mixed gypsum with it. The worms are just now getting into it and now the pill bugs came back. It was what I had on hand.
