Very helpful. Thanks! Been wanting to waterproof air dry clay for a real potted plant. Do you think it would work for this?
@ManicCreationsChannel
@ManicCreationsChannel 4 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for your comment, I have not experimented using the varnish with actually potted plants, however, the garden sculptures that i have done have fair incredibly well in all weathers here in the UK and were sat in and around plants and Soil in gardens, i think as long as you paint and apply more than a few coats of the varnish you should be ok with the submerged wet soil, and perhaps once a year add a fresh coat of varnish for extra measure, hope this all works well for you, let me know how it goes xx

Love your videos. Over the years I've tried yacht varnish on outside projects, and they only last a year, the varnish expands and shrinks with the weather, Sun , frost ect, and I also found it yellows a bit, have you tried resin, that works really well xxx

Hi Lisa thanks for your comment, I have found that the yacht varnish works great although you will need to give it a top up every 6mth, I am about to start an experiment in the new year trying out different mediums for waterproofing as many people have asked about other things they could use and resin is going to be tested on that project ..... so stay tuned!!! with regards to the UV yellowing and yacht varnish some yacht varnishes don't give UV protection so you just need to make sure you get the ones that include UV protection, again thanks for your comment and your support xxx

What other varnish can i add to the clay to make it waterproof ? The one thats use for oil paintings work?
@ManicCreationsChannel
@ManicCreationsChannel 4 жыл бұрын
hi Andrea, thankyou for your question, up until now i have only found that the yacht varnish as shown 100% waterproof although this was with acrylic paint not oil paints, apart from the difference in drying time and the effect light has on their fading i can't see why the yacht varnish would not work on either mediums x

Hi, I had seen your other video of this varnish, im just curious how it has lasted, has it peeled or anything?
@ManicCreationsChannel
@ManicCreationsChannel 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Malika the outdoor sculptures have faired extremely well with the use of the yacht varnish after over a year of being outside constantly through all weathers, they have retained their color from the paint and have not received any weather damage, as expected the sculpture where i forgot to paint the base and just put the varnish on has been effected alittle but other that they have done very well. x

@@ManicCreationsChannel Hello, I would like to ask you for an update is that figure still holding up to the elements of the (rainy, snowy, sunny, hot, etc) Weather outside. Is it? Thanks, Mick from the US.

@@mick.y4776 Hi Mick, of course i am happy to give you an update, has said in the video i did notice where i didn't paint with acrylic paint did seem to have a problem, and so this part of the sculpture didn't last and the elements did destroy the toadstool, however, i did make a air dry fairy house log which was completely painted and then covered with the Varnish and 3 year later i am happy to report that it is still surviving, the colors have not faded thanks to the varnish having the UV protection, but it did require a yearly touch up of the varnish to keep it going...hope this is helpful and if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask x

Absolutely adorable!!! I love Ultimate Paper Mache too. So much helpful content and suggestions... I was wondering, is the sculpture still good to go? or have the elements finally damaged it?

Hi thanks for your comment, the sculptures are still fine, there was a little wear and tear where I didn't paint before vanishing, but apart from that they have weathered really well through snow and tons of rain x

Thank you so much for you videos, I have been thinking about waterproofing a sculpture to put in my fish tank. I think I'm gonna run two experiments. one with your yacht varnish and one with a spray paint called Plasti Dip. I'll let you know how it goes

Wondering whether a base coat of something like Mod Podge on the unpainted parts would help before applying the yacht varnish.
@ManicCreationsChannel
@ManicCreationsChannel 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dawn thankyou for your comment, its is possible that mod podge may help before the yacht varnish, i can only confirm that parts that did not have the paint on before yacht varnish did eventually subside to alittle damage, whereas the areas with the paint and the yacht varnish are still going strong! x

Is Yaht varnish the same a spar varnish?
@ManicCreationsChannel
@ManicCreationsChannel 4 жыл бұрын
hi Serkunny thankyou for your comment, the term "spar varnish" applys to any varnish that is for outdoor use so yes to a degree yacht varnish is a spar varnish, however when picking the varnish you need to look for one that is water resistant and UV filtered/protection as this will help with your creations not fading under the UV rays from the sunlight, hope this was helpful, if you have any further questions please feel free to contact me x

Thank you for your question, when i used gloss varnish made for actual clay modelling i found that it was perfectly fine if the item was indoors but it was unsuitable for outdoor use as it wasn't waterproof and it also yellowed the sculpture due to having no UV resistance, hope this helped and good look starting out x

how to make water proof clay , by mixing material with clay . not by paint , do you know about ?
@ManicCreationsChannel
@ManicCreationsChannel 4 жыл бұрын
I have heard of people adding Mortar to their clay before sculpting, but they have still added a varnish of polyurethane afterwards still to had protection, other than that i have only heard about people making their own version of clay, you might want to check out Johnny Goode on her youtube channel, she creates her own clay using different materials but i dont think there waterproof kzbin.info , one other type i have heard of is Pal Tiya which is waterproof but it is some type of cement clay kzbin.info/door/7IfZQoeOtxk5F9cwz-Ir7Q i have personally never tried this and i have heard that its quite expensive, hope this helps x
