Trying to figure out how to waterproof your quad and RC electronics? Me too! In this video we'll test out WD40 "Specialist" Silicone lubricant for waterproofing electronics (or at least making them water resistant) on a Spektrum Receiver.
Bottom Line Up Front: Seems to be effective, but more testing is needed. Stay Tuned.
Got questions, ideas, or tips about waterproofing/waterresistantifying electronics? Leave them in the comments below!

And just so everyone knows, brushless motors are electronically waterproof. No need to spray them. Although it might help the barrings. But there is a UV reactible conformal coating that insures proper coverage. There is a link below in other comments. Fly safe!

Can a standard motor's Copper commutator with carbon brushes be waterproofed against corrosion? (not counting sealing the motor's housing or case...)
@AngellXP
@AngellXP Жыл бұрын
@@251omega No a standard DC motor and its brushes cannot be water proofed. That said, they will run in wet environments just fine. Be sure to dry them fully after use though to prevent corrosion...

I'm a retired EE. Engineering Design and product testing are things most Engineers do in the course of their careers. Here are some things to keep in mind, (off the top of my head, and not necessarily a comprehensive or complete list.) ---> Define your standards ---> lay out what are the expected or desired test outcomes, Test only one variable at a time. ---> Try testing in SALT WATER to see if it is really waterproof. A lot of untreated things will work underwater - for a while... ---> Tests should include a "CONTROL" that has not been treated to see how it compares to treated. ---> Test to determine lifetime or duration of protection, how reliable is the treatment over time? ---> Evaluate and Explain and Recommend. ---> Keep records for better or later analysis (AND to include with your Resume, if you want to "monetize" your hobby!)

Thanks, I wanted to leave my treadmill outside under the patio. Here in New Orleans, we worry about flooding. Other than keeping it covered, I'll feel more comfortable. Thanks again.

Just so everyone knows this works but doesn't keep it waterproof forever. After a day or so it will short out again. Cause WD-40 silicone does dry up eventually. . Basically your best safest bet is to use coformal coating for everything but plugs and buttons and barometers and USB and use WD-40 silicone all those places Every day u go to fly in the rain or snow. Just reapply to the plugs and stuff each time you go out and the conformal coating will stay for along time. Just check the conformal coating coverage with a blacklight/uv light. It glows bright .

If this the case can we just use coformal coating for everything including usb,button and cable too?

@@chenglau711 There's really no way to waterproof the USB other than corrosion x and that stuff is a mess worry free FPV is also an option that I believe they just use rubber plugs for the USB

@@Reecefpv if I use corrosion x on my electric scooter, to spray on motor, controller and connecting ports, how long will it last for the spray to wear out? How about if big pile of water that cover more than half of the motor also?

@@chenglau711 I couldn't say for sure I know it doesn't last forever but I've never personally used it when I waterproof I usually Conformal coat everything but the plugs and buttons then I use liquid electrical tape on those cuz it peels off easy but it's also flexible and doesn't just crack

I actually tested this stuff out in the rain to see how it would do with a cars windows/windshield (before it started raining), surprising results. AND it actually does great for cleaning windows.

@@RCwithAdam1 Not sure if that's sarcastic :p but Maybe you could test it for yourself, just a spritz around the windows not a full on jet, wipe with a paper towel to spread it, spritz and wipe again until Clear. It also doesn't leave streaks once wiped/dried like glass cleaner normally does. Its not on the level of Rain-X type stuff, but it does have an effect.

I can’t find anything on this question of mine probably since it’s a unique situation.. I’m trying to prevent corrosion on my micro USB connections for my outdoor Ring Camera, it attaches to a solar panel using a micro USB connection.. I’ve used all different greases for battery terminals, spark plugs etc.. but this is an odd type of connection that I don’t want to do damage too but would really like to weatherproof this as best I can... I’ve never used this product before but does anyone know of a spray or grease I should use??

Silicone spray doesn't really "dry" dry. You're probably thinking of electronics lacquer. But don't get any of it onto the contacts.

Distilled water isn’t conductive but the water that comes out of your tap is full of different minerals which then makes the water conductive.
