Love the original version sung by Elis Regina and Tom Jobim (our kings), but I gotta be honest: I might not like how some of the lyrics don't translate as nicely to english, but maaan, I love how melancholic this version sounds.

I think the English translation also just works really well for showing people Bossa Nova for the first time since the lyrics hit differently when you can understand them. I played the Spanish translation while my cousin was in the car and she didn’t care very much, then the English translation 1 month later and she loved it

The original is also a melancholy song. In Brazil, in the southern hemisphere, the end of March marks the transition into fall/winter. The line in the original, "fechando o verão" translates to the "end of summer."

The movie was so..invasive it summed up everything, i was have existential crises when i saw it and idk it just made my existential crises..acceptable? It was a hug that it wasn’t supposed to make you feel better..but it made you feel at peace with all of that. It gave a strong message that life wasn’t supposed to be beautiful, it will never be, life is just life.

Art Garfunkel's interval skips are flowing and accurate in pitch. Yet somehow, I don't feel the sense of the lyrics, the "meaning beyond the words." This song is challenging, because all of the lyrics are phrases, seemingly disjointed. So, it is important to look behind and in between the words at those things that are implied and unspoken (as a person would do who speaks Japanese and wants to know the true heart of the speaker). Mr. Garfunkel's voice is excellent. I wish him well wish his future endeavors.

It's just poetry -painting a picture of the randomness of life unfolding through all these things you may encounter good or bad but without judgement because they will exist. Because that is life -a cycle with beginnings and endings and renewals from spring rain. No rain no gain. It fits the concept of the movie perfectly. She could be a sweet girl or the worst person in the world depending on perspective, but really she was just moving through life as it unfolded in all its randomness.
