Choral singer here - once you've been trained on common characteristic sounds of romance languages and have a few songs under your belt, you can work up a decent pronunciation reasonably quickly - much more quickly than it would take to fully learn the language! A little familiarity with the International Phonetic Alphabet helps here too. Josh has college a capella background so I'm not surprised he pulls off the Portuguese well!

In Bossa Nova not only the lirycs but the rhythm and harmonies also tells a story. This song sounds uplifting and refreshing whilst the liryc is a bit dark. In a way it describes the aftermath of floods and landslides commonly caused by the rains in that time of the year. It's a tough time but it reminds the power people have to rebuild themselves. At leat that's my take on that song.

Eh-hmmm, it is Samba de Verão composed by Marcos Valle and original lyrics by his brother Paulo Sérgio Valle. The dodgy bolt-on English lyrics and wrong names were assigned by American lyricist Norman Gimbel. Why the beef? Because with virtually no exception, the English lyrics are crappy lightweight bolt-on shoe-horned lyrics which typically have nothing to do with the original lyrics. The greatness of the tunes are stripped down, dumbed down, without the poetic gravitas of the original intention. That is if the lyrics have anything to do with the original lyrics. Those are the worst and most unforgivable lyrics in English. Harrumph.

This is the first time I ever see an American singing in Pt w so clear pronunciation, I even felt like they were 2 Brazilian! Also, as a musician, I should say that his guitar Rhythm was pretty samba-like. When I was in the U.S I've heard other people saying Boss-Nova was a "Brazilian Jazz", bit when they played, it didn't sound like Bossa, it actually sounded like Jazz, so I realized that not everybody is sensitive enough to perceive and capture that details of the rhythmic nuances of Samba. You Josh in fact did it, your Swing was really identical! All the props!
