Great info, as usual! I'm going full electric power on my Wilderness Systems ATAK 120 with a NK300 at the stern. That one seems to push my ATAK 120 about 7 mph. Now I'm looking for a lightweight trolling motor up front for fishing. Hence, my interest in the ASP T18 or T24. One thing I have been unable to determine is the diameter of the motor unit of the T18 or T24. No one posts those specs. It turns out that the pod in the front of the ATAK kayaks has a 9" long and 3 1/8" wide slot that is presently holding my Lowrance transducer. I've heard that those small Watersnakes can fit through that opening and have yet to confirm that! If I confirm that it fits through I will be looking at your ESC conversion.
@Aksmaniyak6 ай бұрын
Thanks Michael. I don't have the T24 anymore so I can't provide you with that measurement.

Very nice! The Watersnake T24 is getting more and more popular so this video is well timed for those who want to use a remote hard-wired head. Are you planning another video for how to setup steering for this version?
@Aksmaniyak Жыл бұрын
Thanks James. I'm sure there will be more videos for the WS since you are right about the growing popularity.

Very nice video! The blue wire that came from the motor, there is any problem to don’t use it? If I connect the red positive and the black negative from the motor direct to a on/off 30a switch to the battery, the motor will be always in the hi-speed?
@Aksmaniyak Жыл бұрын
Thanks. The blue wire is not needed. I would not hook the red/black wiring directly to the battery with a switch except as an emergency if the speed controller fails.
@danibetitto6006 Жыл бұрын
@@Aksmaniyak Thanks for the reply! The idea is use direct battery to motor for long distances then connect the PWM in the fishing spots. I had a lot off issues with the factory switch in these long distances same as the PWM getting very hot. What do you think?
@Aksmaniyak Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't do that. Spend the money on a quality PWM or ESC instead. Messing around with electronics on the water is not recommended.

Well, if anyone’s going to do it, this is the video to watch, little bit too much work for me and I don’t really need to do it. I’ll just turn the thing with my hand. It’s a five speed and reverse and it’s right next to me so I have no real need to do that, very good video

Thanks for the great videos! Is the ESC expensive? i’m running PWM‘s and they’ve been working fine. What are the advantages of the ESC? Can you reduce the speed of the prop to an absolute crawl like you can DPWM’s
@Aksmaniyak11 ай бұрын
Thanks John. The ESC is a higher quality speed controller over a PWM. I would not use an ESC on TMs 50lbs or over. Click the parts link for specs and the price.

Do you have a video for a wireless remote for this trolling motor? Can you make a video showing how to raise and lower the motor for shallow water? I’m trying to add this motor to my Perception Outlaw 11.5. Love your content! I’m learning so much from watching your videos!
@Aksmaniyak Жыл бұрын
Thanks Reese! No I haven't made a video for the remote because the instructions are poor and most of the functions are not necessary for this application. I have a video showing how to lift a motor but not the WS.

Is there a reason you used the remote box instead of putting the remote receiver/esc setup in the head like the minnkota one? How is that remote setup holding up? Also planning on doing these mods w the WS to my Outback! Thanks so much for sharing these with us!!!!
@Aksmaniyak Жыл бұрын
You are welcome Walt! Yes, I needed to make a remote box for both motors to connect because i am only using one receiver. It is easier and more efficient to connect both ESCs close to each other. They are still working fine.

Can you tell me how to take that straight tilt pin off the T24 watersnake. I want to have it free in case i bump into a rock or something.

The ESC regulates the power.

if I just wanted to extend the controls to be placed somewhere on my kayak where it's easier to reach - is it as easy as just extending the wires in the head? what guage wire is it?
@Aksmaniyak Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can extend the wring in the head unit and relocate it. I don't remember the wire gauge...it was 14 or 16.
@OutdoorMishaps Жыл бұрын
@@Aksmaniyak thats great thank you!
@BerkleyJones Жыл бұрын
12 AWG minimum preferably 10 AWG (you want 4mm2 core wire), as you extend the wires you will add more resistance increasing heat in thinner gauge wires. T24 draws 20 Amps on high speed @12V. I've Personally used 12 AWG which was 3.9mm2 core rated at 25Amps and extended the wires. around 6Ft (2 Meters).

Great video as always. Wondering what the benefits of having an ESC vs PWM. IVE seen your video on the PWM AND THINK I’d like to use the PWM on for a MinnKota 30lb trolling motor.

Can you explain to a novice like me why the blue wire is pushed back in to the shaft and not used?
@coopercovelo11 ай бұрын
You could save yourself some effort, and just put the motor switches in high speed and forward, and just wire the ESC to the black and red leads. Also, if your ESC decided to die, you could always just hook the red and black leads back up to the motor, and not be dead in the water.
@Aksmaniyak11 ай бұрын
That's not the best way to wire an ESC to these motors. Also, who do you think did the video for the "dead in the water" scenario fix?😁
