Thanks for sharing this design. Similar designs have been popping up on the Internet from Europe and the USA. I made an end-loaded EFHW here, and my "garden", as you say, is very small. With the power lines running across the rear fence line and the house drop across one side, my usable space out back is about 22' x 45', or 7 meters x 14 meters. I made my EFHW as an Inverted-L, the high end up 10 meters and the remainder sloping to a 3 meter pole. The coil is physically larger, wound on a length of waste water drain line, 4" in diameter (100mm more or less) an 40 turns of insulated 14 gauge wire. It's 102 uH. The end wire is 7' long (2.4 meters or so). My SWR curve on 80 is almost identical to your model, and it is the first 80 meter antenna that actually fits in my tiny yard! I have been running with this antenna on FT4band FT8 and have done quite well. An interesting antenna, and I wish that I had tried it 50 years ago when I first got on the air! 73, Keith, WB2VUO here near Buffalo, NY

I recently installed a EA80DXS antenna. It is 20 meters long and while it won't cover the whole 80 meter band it will easily 3.5 to 3.6 MHz without a tuner. I did have to add about 0.5 meters to each end. I am only able to get it up a little over 6 meter but I am quite pleased with it's performance.

I’m confused, I got that you made a choke and I see that I can purchase it already built, but what are the wire lengths for the EFHW and where do you wire the coil?
@watersstanton
@watersstanton Жыл бұрын
Length is Half Wave on lowest band - your garden decides what you can fit in. The line isolator is NOT connected, you simply wind some turns of coax around it

What changes to the coil or the stub would you recommend if I wanted to target 3.850 MHz? Can a really short stub get me this high in the 75/80m band? Thanks!

Very bright, instructive video. Thank you, sir. Many good pearls of wisdom. What I don’t find answers for, but you touched upon in this video ( I believe it was this one, I’ve watched several this evening.) is the question of how much coax in ft or M. is recommended for a 130 ft. EFHW antenna? 16-18 ft off the ground. Some say a long coax is better. Others say no matter. Is there an exact number, and how is it derived? Thank you & 73

Probably a silly question from an amateur ham - I have a G5RV up at the moment, which gives me 80 mtrs. - now, if I disconnect the ladder feed, short the two 'legs of the antenna together, and end-feed it with a 49 - 1 unun, will I get somewhere near Top-band?
@watersstanton
@watersstanton 2 жыл бұрын
It is unlikely that the total amount of wire will equate to a half-wave on 160m = 254fr?. Sorry! 73 Peter

Me again. Bizzarely the same setup as i have at home. This principle can also design on shorter antennas where space is critical. You may not get the full range of bands. You might not need 80m but you could design a shorter 40m. Or use traps to add other in between bands. MM7DKY

Great video thanks, I’m in the process of putting up a 80m halfwave end fed. Would this trap work for me to get 160m out of my antenna, guessing it would be a bigger choke. It would be excellent to get all the bands out of my 80m hwef.
@watersstanton
@watersstanton 2 жыл бұрын
You need a much bigger choke. I may investigate this but it would be very narrow banded. 73 Peter

Peter, I am building this same antenna. Some hams say to use a 110 microH coil while others use an 80 microH coil. Will they both work? What size of microH coil will block an 80 meter signal? Is there a formula for these blocking frequencies? For your 20/40 meter vertical you recommend a 32 microH coil to block 20 meters but pass 40. Would you please add your comments?

@@watersstanton hi Peter I'm not that computer literate, I just use computers to browse the internet and email I've looked at lab599's website and the firmware update looks like rocket science to me, be easier with a video for some of us that are a bit behind the times with modern technology and are a bit nervous about bricking their equipment during a firmware update.
