Icom and Yaesu, it's about time they start making more affordable radio's. Yes they would be basic sets but for some that's all we need.

Start making? What about the IC-7300 ans FT-710?
@petersichel99342 ай бұрын
Icom is obviously aware of competition from Elecraft and Flex Radio, both of which support CESSB (Controlled Envelope SSB) to deliver up to 8 dB of additional talk power. I'm curious how it compares to Icom's pre-distortion? Elecraft and Flex also offer full remote operation via the Internet including CW (which is hard due to latency). It's not clear if the IC-7760 will support this. Japanese companies are historically less likely to offer significant new features via firmware update. I love my IC-705, but the user experience of owning a $6000 radio needs to compete at a different level. It will be interesting to see how Icom competes in this space.

Well… W H A O W ! ! ! That’s some radio… very nice use of technology in the ever increasing noise environments. It’s going to cost a kidney one of these but why not get one if it floats yer boat, you never know what’s around the next corner so gerrit. Will Kenwood follow ? ? ? I really like the 890S but this Icom is tempting. Thank you Peter for the presentation it was good, as usual. Best wishes for everyone.73. 💙

I am persuadable to buy one but I would need to see it operating. I need something that's easy to use for simple QSOs but had the extra features in reserve for when I need them. Being in Scotland means I have to make a 400 mile trip or wait till someone here buts one. The lack of required desk space is a real selling point. Maybe if you get a demo one you can do a video of it in use? Or get someone at ICOM to do one.

I find it strange that they didn't add WiFi to the remote head module. Perhaps you can connect it to your router via a WiFi module, IDK. Not that I will buying this rig, however being able to locate the rig main unit close to the antenna entry point into the house, and then being able to operate the rig from anywhere in the house via WiFi would be an attractive selling point.
@HamRadioN0CKL2 ай бұрын
Imagine if instead they made a 50watt updated 705 with remote head unit. They would have been swimming in money.
@petersichel99342 ай бұрын
Interesting comment. Icom started their SDR journey with the entry level 7300 and is working their way up with the 7610 and now 7760. They made a lot of money with the 7300 and 705 which are likely still selling well. Yaesu started with the $3.5K FT101 and has worked their way down with FT10 and 710. With the entry level 710 near the top of the Sherwood list, the 7300 and 7610 are due for a technology refresh. I suspect the 7760 is targeting the top end of the Sherwood list and to compete with $6K radios from Elecraft and Flex Radio. Some of this technology should find its way into a 7300+ next year. Icom is no doubt working on a successor to the 7300, but the hype machine can only focus on one product at a time. I can kind of understand why they chose the 7760 this year.

We will see this transceiver as soon as the PW2 amplifier. Nobody here is writing that Icom has changed its repair policy - only replacing whole modules.... which means that after 2 years of warranty, if something breaks, you have to pay for the repair like for a new radio.... Good Luck 73!

My problem with a lot of modern transceivers that are dependent on PCs is that they use Windows not Linux. Considering that a lot of Amateurs use Linux and that Linux is often the preferred choice for techies (which a lot of Amateurs are) the major manufacturers should cater for Linux users.

I was looking forward to the new radio, but it’s just another small,ish radio, I doubt many will spend that amount of money on a small radio, bring back the nice big 19” rack mount sized radio, I have already got rid of my ftdx-101mp and a load of other kit, not for me, will wait to see what else comes out from Kenwood or Yaesu in a year or two.

I think that I do like this, but... Suggested price of US$6000 which means £6000 for us in the UK. I love my Icom 7851 and 7700 so it will be hard to justify spending 50% more than the current Yaesu flagship price. I currently use the RC28 for controlling the radio from around the home, so the network facility of the 7760 isn't anything new. Andy why are they still using the DVI-D interface? What are the chances of one being at Newark this year?

Sorry, but I need to correct an important technical misstatement: “Digital Predistortion” is a process that only works to improve the transmitted signal - but not the received signal. In your video, you mistakenly state that it works on both. Digital Predistortion considers the unwanted artifacts generated within the entire audio and RF chain - cradle-to-grave from the microphone to just before the final amplifier - and then generates an identical twin signal 180 degrees out of phase. The technology then blends the two, cancelling out only the unwanted artifacts before final transmission. If you have a linear amplifier, then unwanted artifacts generated even within the transceiver’s finals are cancelled out as well. Unfortunately, this has nothing to do with received signals whatsoever.

This was a Japanese translation of the pre-release spec.

Twice the cost of the 7610. Essentially a glorified 7610. Rcvr specs? Meh. With ambient noise environments this is diminishing returns. Would have preferred to see something between the 7300 and 7610 with improved DNR. Remote head? Big deal..I can buy a lot of desk space for $3,000 more than a 7610.
