My son is a parasitologist employed as a researcher into vector (carriers of disease) potential the Animal & Plant Health Agency (APHA), UK., but he has worked on the problem around the world including his doctorate into Tse-Tse flies. Other serious threats you don't mention are the transmission of viruses and parasites through mosquito borne vectors in migratory bird populations; the arrival of invasive mosquito vectors (e.g., in the US alone, Aedes albopictus (Asian Tiger Mosquito) & Aedes notoscriptus (the Australian Backyard Mosquito)); the spread of parasites such as Dog Heart Worm into native wild animals (Coyotes, foxes, otters) now rampant in the US; the spread of arbovirus with zoonotic potential (transmission from animals to humans) causative of hemorrhagic illness, e.g., Japanese encephalitis, Ebola. It's very (VERY) scary and there's a HUGE war going on around the world led by scientists, to combat this. It's worth a completely separate video.

Excellent info! Thank you as we do have scientists seeking positive solutions... Sadly we have others seeking what seems dangerous.... Natural "viruses" cannot be patented... There are many patents for things that have been moneyed with: AIDS ZIKA EBOLA SARS-COVID C-19 MARBERGS Etc.,. Parasites much more diverse and prolific imo in western medical industry there is a serious vacuum of such info

Everything you said is very TRUE! but thankfully we are more sanitary here in the states and the spread of locally transmitted mosquito borne illness is not a significant issue. The real issue is when people travel to different countries such as in Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America. They then return infected and risk getting bitten and spreading the disease. I work for an environmental Agency in the mosquito control division. We deal with this almost on a daily basis.

I lived in New Jersey for about 14 years from 94 to 2008. Never saw a single spotted lantern fly when I lived there. When I finally returned to New Jersey for training in a new job I landed a few years ago, I immediately noticed them flying around and infesting nearby trees in the area. Didn't know what they were at the time and actually asked the people in the building what they were and where they came from. It's amazing how fast these menaces can go from being virtually unknown to widely known. At first glance, you might think they look unique and nice...until you see the swarms that cover trees, which look downright horrifying.

I encountered the Lantern Fly a few years ago in NYC and it got out of control real quick. I found out that if you buy the basic Ortho yard spray, it doesn't kill them but will keep them off your property for 1-2 months. I also check everywhere for the eggs and burn them. They hatch so many at a time

As a boy, I remember visiting Lake Erie and seeing lots and lots of pollution. The Cuyahoga River actually caught on fire. 50 years later. The water looks almost pristine. One of the byproducts of zebra mussles is their ability to filtrate water. Especially when they do it in such mass quantities.

I think it's because the eggs cannot hatch underwater, because the eggs require to be outside of the water to successfully hatch. I think it's a just in case precaution, like if there were some that ultimately, didn't get that crushed, or not crushed at all, they wouldn't hatch anyway, because they'd be underwater. Essentially, drowning. Let's not forget there are invasive fish, too, they could eat the eggs, and die from it, but I still get your concerns

Native Florida apple snail eggs are a pale salmon, and turn white quickly. Invasive Island and Channeled apple snails lay “pink” eggs that turn white/ grey before hatching. Unfortunately, using egg masses for apple snail identification can be difficult because of variations caused by environmental factors and all turn white before hatching.

At the cost of the eco system. Swimming pools are clear with little or no waterborne plants or wildlife. They had ruined all vegetation and the water was so clear you could see to the bottom, even in deep water which is not good because then the water turns green. They had to leave the lake empty for along time to get rid of them and when it was filled again it took a few more years to come back to life. They sat up cleaning stations and people had to clean the bottoms of their boats before launching to keep from spreading them from Lake to lake.
