It used to be that in drilling one had to use a bit of sufficient diameter to accept the well casing. This required the bit to be larger in diameter than the casing. In order to change the bit one had to "trip" the well, which means that you had to pull out all the casing pipe, put on a new bit and put it all back. I assume that we have technology now that allows a bit to be narrow enough to go down the well casing and then expand to the proper size. If anyone actually knows how this is done these days I would be interested in finding out.

@zerolatitude2923Ай бұрын
Behind the bit (up the hole) there is a wrist like joint. We can move that joint to steer the bit. Data can come up through the mud or in a wired BHA (Bottom hole assembly) The directional boys are really good at what they do. Was a tool pusher on a rig in Dubai.

It's solid/molten rock down there.. There are no caves down there. They physically can't exist due to the pressures down there. If things could live in magma/molten rock, then we would've encountered them already since people live in Hawaii just fine. It's not like they can even get up to the top to begin with. At a certain point, the immense pressure just closes up the tiny gap that humans made. That's why it's difficult to dig that deep, you can't just simply break some rocks and forget about it.
@vdong1112Ай бұрын
So how do we know about the cretatiouse time if we have never drilled this far to explore.
@TheCarterKentАй бұрын
From an engineering standpoint, they are wasting time, effort, expense in ignoring the laws of physics. As they go deeper underground the difficulties increase exponentially, so the more sensible thing to do would be to dig out the area (above their drill hole) as deeply as possible. For example, if they dug out the surrounding area to a depth of 500 feet, that would mean they would have to deal with 500 feet LESS drilling difficulties. I don't know what the maximum feasible depth that they could carve out around their drill hole, but it would be at least 500 feet.
@kk2ak14Ай бұрын
They going to fill with temu items?
@btoolmanАй бұрын
Drill bits at surface will always act differently at depth especially when you go deeper. The pressure will exponentially rise and the temperature will rise as well. To drill this, it will be critical to actually think outside of the box. China is not known for this. They can copy stuff, but they cannot innovate.
