I recently watched a Netflix special on Cats, and apparently even domestic cats don’t meow at each other when living in say, feral groups. Meows are special adaptation, in domestic cats, to communicate with their owners. They all have their own set of meows for their Hooman, and they’re all different, so technically we all speak our own unique language with our kittehs.

These cats are incredible. I've spoken to a few soldiers who were deployed to the middle east that are from my local area (joint base Lewis McChord), and they all have stated that these little cats, are the scroungers from hell. One of them (a personal friend) stated he would put out water for the local cat where his unit was, and that eventually, the cat would come up to the water, sip a cpl tongue loads, and then lay down a few feet from where he sat. The cat never came close enough to pet, but showed zero fear of him. He'd toss it a very small piece of jerky now and then, and the cat would ignore it. But the water. Not so much, even though it would only take a small sip or two.

I live in the mountains. When very young my family & I always seen bobcats in the woods. A bobcat was killing our chickens, so my father had to shoot it...it turned out to be a mother bobcat & we only ever found 1 small baby female bobcat. We named her Bobbie & even had the local Vet doctor to vaccinate her. Bobbie had wilder tendencies than regular cats, but we all played with her trying to tame her as much as possible while she was growing. We made Bobbie a home & she lived inside an old metal oil drum turned over at the edge of the back yard next to the woods. She was so pretty & we adored her. As she got much older her instincts became stronger than our work at keeping her tame...she started hunting & killing our chickens. We couldn't bring ourselves to kill her. We waited until she was sleeping inside her oil drum, put the lid on, then drove her about 2 hours or so & put her out at an old, abandoned trash dump. We took a 50-pound sack of dry dog food & opened it outside the drum then took the lid off. She walked outside & snarled & looked around & looked at us & smelled of the food. Bobbie the Bobcat just finally sat down & was sniffing the air & just looking around. We knew she could find rats, mice, crows, & other creatures at the old dump. We hated to give her up, but she was a wild animal...she never once tried to hurt us though...she sensed we were family at that point in her life. I imagine that these wonderful sand cats would also be a challenge to raise as pets...their instincts are deep & wild just like bobcats.

Maybe you can't tame them, but maybe you can get one to mate with a domesticated breed of yours so that you could have a hybrid that is less wild.

@@21nspired I'm sure you can tame them. But I'll take probably hundreds of years over many generations.

You really need to stop listening to the dogma that Sand cats and other Wild animals can’t be tamed. This is ludicrous. Just about any animal can be tamed.

@@tevinwoods8867 I think people mix up domestication and taming.
@tevinwoods88672 ай бұрын
@@DJace3000I know that. Domesticating an animal means breeding that animal to suit or to better suit human needs. Sand cats can be bred and are bred in captivity. So that means sand cats can be selectively bred for tameness.

Dp Dragonwolf, Hi! Yes, photographing them must be fun, if you're cautious and bring a gift, like water, perhaps? Some creatures simply get sick or even die if removed from their natural habitat, just as you point out. We still haven't been able to keep a great white shark alive, cooped up in a tank. They sadly die. Best regards to you.

@MrSkateborder1012 жыл бұрын
Just so that nobody gets caught out. The video mentions kangaroo Rats and Sand Cats without much distinction as to region. It could be easily misinterpreted that kangaroo Rats are a source of prey for Sand Cats. These species do not live within the same areas, Kangaroo Rats being from North America and Sand Cats being from Africa & Asia. Sand Cats do however live in the same areas as Jerboa a similarly adapted rodent to Kangaroo Rats that would be a prey item for them. :D

Thank you for highlighting the fact that animals suffer if taken from their natural environment. That is one big mistake people always make, they think every animal should be domesticated or to live in the environment we chose for them No the case. So please, leave wild animals where they grow best, and can survive on their own. They don't need us humans to help them as they don't need help.
