Losaka Jataka (Jataka #41)
In this video, the Buddha tells a story of the past to explain why Venerable Losaka never had enough food to eat.
Wat San Fran is proud to present stories taken from the Jatakas, Dhammapada, and Buddhist history. These stories often use past rebirth stories (Jatakas) to reveal the connection between past and present, and illustrate the relationship between cause and effect.
Check out the playlist #AnimatedBuddhistStories by Wat San Fran to explore the complete series.

It's 3:30 AM in India. I stay up until this time only to listen to these beautiful stories. I have said it before, and I'll say it again. Your channel and animated videos are a blessing to humanity. The Jataka Tales are not new to me. I have read similar stories from different books and teachers but your Channel by far does the best job in deciphering the true essence of these stories. Alright now, back to the video that I've been waiting for since a week.

🎤 Desire to gain security from the outside world 🌎 is so strong that it can go to any extent for gaining it. This desire brings dependency and this dependency in turn invites so much suffering that it doesn't only harm the self but this suffering is inflicted on others too by the one who suffers. This is the quality of a restless mind. That is why, it is truly said that, " Control your mind otherwise it will rule / control you. " And by being a slave to the tendencies of the mind, how unconsciously the beings commit disastrous sins, is very well, crystal clear from this Jataka Tale 📩

The resident monk’s “evil plan” seems to more like slight jerkishness. Him being reborn as a hungry beggar, hated by all but other monks, seems disproportionate.

Very true. It's scary. But through right karma itself that is the Dhamma practice, one can overcome the results of wrong karma.

As scary as it was, this was Losaka's path to liberation. I do not know, but I wonder if karma is not a gift our innate buddha-potential gives to our present being? A gift from the future, handed back in time. From our current perspective, anyway.
