Aye! I played it back in alpha and lemme tell ya as an english speaking person IT WAS HEK! First before you could even get into the game there were time periods where you play it THEN AND ONLY THEN could you play it. Logging in and it's all in french, no matter what game I play to does not compare to having google translate open at all times to type in spells and their effects and just everything else. Back during alpha there were ONLY pvp things. Basically you loaded up wither 1v1s or 2v2s and you played until ya got your fill and the server shuts down and ya wait again. Within two alphas of the game being open there was already a tournament between the best english player and the best french player.

Waven looks absolutely charming as expected from the Ankama artstyle. But I can't help but feel like the game was built to be on mobile first and pc second which is kind of disappointing. I've been playing ankama games for almost 20 years. I'm playing this on mobile, at this time, from north america. My opinion is pretty simple- Ankama is the most underrated game developers on earth. For the lover of tactical combat, tcgs, and great stories- Ankama has no rivals in the modern gaming landscape. Just sad they don't have the visibility of their "competition."

Nice review! I felt just like you about the mobile stuff. One side note: I don't think the AI makes purposeful decisions to make you fail challenges. It's just that... challenges aren't a big deal. Also the fact that not every class/build can do every challenge and the fact that enemies try to move as much as possible to hit you without hurting themselves (with some exceptions). If you are really interested in the grinding, you'd better finish the combat asap instead of getting +15% exp if stinky bacon dies with a spell.
@VagrantVideos Жыл бұрын
Lol I guess the grinding is true. But it REALLY feels like the AI is coded to try and make you fail. Especially as a SRAM with traps, like I said in the video. I’ll put a trap way far away from me. Enemy will hit me, NOT move closer (as a melee attacker) and will move ONTO the trap, and suicide. *challenge failed* Literally had that happen to me. Lol

Hey Vagrant, You were right in saying that you can't call Waven an MMORPG because Ankama didn't mean for it to be. It is a tactical RPG with coop elements (Only one piece of end game content requires coop right now but I'm sure that will evolve with time) and has a gameloop based on farming. Things like crafting or trading are not planned. I've played quite a bit personally (roughly 300 hours) and I really like the game. Obviously it has issues and still doesn't have lots of content yet (the game's design however encourages leveling and playing multiple characters which really does add lots of possible play time ). I've pretty much done everything the game has to offer and am waiting at this point for the official release and the addition of new content which in my opinion really is what will make or break the game. Getting frequent updates will be key. Also I'm very much looking forward to more balance changes to unlock more theory crafting options, it will be a great time. You mentioned the mobile friendly design of the game which is probably the biggest factor to take into consideration if anyone's thinking about trying the game. I think it has both pros and cons. I know in my case I was going to dismiss the game based on that but got used to things very fast. Things like random loot chests and gacha are usually my nightmare but the good news is that those are not the only way of obtaining loot. You can just farm specific islands and drop your items (also happens to be the more efficient way) or buy them from merchants in exchange of gold and/or island coins. I actually have more than a thousand unopened chests which I'm keeping for when new loot is added to the game or at the very least until they improve the chest opening interface (it really is terrible and makes chest opening a chore).
@oultrox8275 Жыл бұрын
I feel on the same boat. We've spent a ton of hours grinding and having fun in the gameloop. Things like it's UI and mobile feel just because it's a tactical RPG with minimalist UI doesn't steal from us any sleep. We've been grinding a lot and having fun. I think this is the most appealing to the wider audicente iteration of ankama's tactical RPG games.
@S0-102 Жыл бұрын
Well wakfu and Dofus both had massive grind at endgame, even with token systems. Best MMORPG-s ever in my opinion. But I had no time IRL to set up for endgame dungeons and people had really close-knit partys, even with best guilds it was hard. Waven looks like you can grind most stuff alone in short bursts if you want to and still have fun.

"On Steam" - and the Ankama launcher for those who avoid using Steam for games with their own launchers, for people who have begun avoiding Steam due to Valve's progressive destruction of their client's performance, people who boycott Valve because of various poor decisions and problems with their support service, and people for whom the Steam client has been a known health risk that Valve has been actively refusing to fix and removing safe workarounds for since late 2019. Might be a good idea to mention that part in future?
@Socktupus10 ай бұрын
You’re in such a small minority if you boycott steam, most people would think “thank god it’s on steam, that makes it easier for me to play.”
@a-blivvy-yus10 ай бұрын
@@Socktupus Yeah, and? I never said they shouldn't have released on Steam. I never said the video shouldn't include mention that the game is on Steam. I said they should add an "AND" for the other place it's available, because there are growing numbers of people affected for various reasons to different degrees by problems which prompt them to look elsewhere. Some are quite severe, and show Valve to be one of the most abusive companies in gaming. And with how bad some of the competition is, even being near the top of that list is pretty atrocious.

How is steam a health risk?
@a-blivvy-yusАй бұрын
@@Allister_1 In 2019, there was an update which turned the Steam client into a trigger for migraines, epilepsy, and several less severe conditions. Some users affected by the two more serious conditions contacted Valve about it within days of the problem, and over the next several months, more users did the same, and a number of less harmful problems were found to also be affected by some of the same issues as a result of the same update. Since then, Valve has responded by admitting they know the problem exists, but directly stating that they intend not to fix it. Not that they don't have current plans, but that they are knowingly refusing to take appropriate measures to fix it. Since then, their responses have only gotten worse, including violations of privacy rights, and even more obviously abusive replies to affected (former) customers. I have migraines which on a number of occasions have been severe enough to require hospitalisation. I've functionally had about $3000 worth of games stolen from my by Valve over this. The issue is being investigated by relevant authorities for me and several other local users, and I know of 3 other countries where there are ongoing investigations into the company's conduct. Unfortunately, under US law, there's not a lot to be done, and international processes are horribly slow and probably won't see any meaningful resolution within any affected users' lifetimes. But I *CAN* make sure people are aware that Valve are going out of their way to try and steal the "worst company in gaming" title from Ubisoft or EA or whoever else might be holding onto it at the moment. And that's before considering the various tools and features which were popular among power users and/or useful for competitive gaming which Valve has just been deleting, and lying about when asked why they're no longer supporting tools which are useful and in some cases necessary for certain use cases.

About the boxes, its both true and false they are how you get equipment. Each day there is a change on the loot table of the islands and where you can grind a specific piece of gear, boxes on the other hand just have a global loot table instead, you will still grind specific islands for coins/random drops to gain the piece of gear or companion you are grinding for. outside of that idk what is about waven that has been utterly ADDICTING despite how barebones it feels i made a "Samurai" Sram with tons of self healing shenaningans from by gear and spells and it ended up being a super tanky dps monster with some utility that i have so much fun with

not a fan of the english VA. would've preferred a french VA but that's probably a preference thing plus i've watched the Wakfu series. i can't get over how weird it felt hearing the same stuff spoken in english. also really disappointed the "skills" don't actually activate from your character and play a cool animation like it used to in Wakfu ie your Iop stomp ground and shoot rock spikes to impale enemies or Ecaflip running up to the target and lick them with their rough tongue. now you just pull a card and magic attack just... happens... like, the character doesn't even do anything. the skills happen independent of your character and the "hero" might as well be a walking radio calling in airstrikes from off screen. i mean, the f*cking Cras don't even shoot arrows from their bows, arrows LITERALLY fly in from off screen. i'm really upset about this D:
