Dany is actually using the tiny Orange on top of the Mesa Boogie. The Mesa may be for boost, but Dany travels and does gigs with that baby Orange. BTW, Dany did not have her PRS yet when this was recorded in the studio. But, she did have probably 20 guitars to choose from in the studio. So, maybe when the album is released we can finally know what guitars she used on each song.
@robertkrawitz8237

I'm wondering what she's going to be using live. Every performance they've done since she got it she's used the PRS. She used to trade off between the two Rick Toone Spearfishes and the Manson, but (other than of course acoustic) she really seems to like that PRS. Will she be using it on older material that she originally played on different guitars?

Top flight review, and I really like the comparison aspect. Some notes: 1) The big fill by Pau at the start of the second chorus is my favorite such by her, hands down. It's not only terrific to listen to, it's a visual treat as well. There's something majestic about what she's doing; she looks fully in command, not just in the sense of having it down, but really of commanding the drums like a military officer. And you probably noticed in the most recent one that she was singing her harmonies perfectly in time and with spot on intonation while executing the fill, with a completely different rhythm than the vocals. You were spot on with it becoming an iconic fill. 2) Ale! Ale! Seeing Ale singing lead is a bit of a holy grail among The Warning fans, because she seldom does. Dany sang it on the recording, but Ale seems to sing it live, I believe I heard because Dany can't change her vocal register that quickly. Regardless, she has a Stevie Nicks like huskiness in her deep register, and a lot more fullness in her vocal tone with some vibrato added in the recent recording, more so than in the Cave. 3) When Ale gets more comfortable singing extended leads, think about what they can do with three powerful lead singers. I can't think of a lot of bands with three strong lead singers (yes, all four of the Beatles sang, but George and Ringo were just spot singers). Dany's developing into a top tier rock diva with range and power that she hasn't shown before, Pau has more of a husky high voice that makes for interesting duets when she trades off with Dany, and Ale sounds like she's developing a low alto range, and if she can develop more power there, watch out. 4) This was done in one of the top studios in Mexico (or at least Monterrey), Victoria Records. So they really could do a lot there. But recording them live and doing other work in post really seems to suit them; as you said, they play off each other and their sister bond really shows. They're always spot on, and if you go back to Enter Sandman and We're Not Gonna Take it, you won't notice it simply because it's errors that you spot and there aren't any of note. Dany mentioned recently that she's taking an online course in music production that Alan Parsons offers. Even if she isn't producing their recordings, understanding how the process works will only benefit them. It speaks to their professionalism. They're not simply prodigiously talented youngsters having fun. They're full on professionals dedicated to their craft, who understand the importance of detail and that it's essential to always uplevel their skills. 5) The most recent one is IMO much better than the original, which of course was recorded late last year and mixed over the winter. Some of that is probably improvement in their skills and some is probably playing live, but I don't think that that's all of it. However, there's one thing I really like about the Cave version (both, actually -- there's also a recording they did for their patreon supporters earlier in the day than the public Cave version), and that's the tremendous dynamics in the bass and drums. I have reasonably good mains (B&W 603 S2), a solid Marantz AVR, but also a Hsu Research ULS-15 sub for which 30 Hz is nothing. The Cave version isn't as strong of a mix overall, but it's really something to feel the drum hits and low notes on the bass. I think that both of the studio versions compress a lot of that out. Over my computer speakers, even with a respectable sub as such go, that effect is of course lost, but I really like hearing the drums and bass practically live.

@@robertor4531 Ale's vocals are not as strong as Dany's. So does an ok job in the most recent live version but the song suffers here. Dany's combined low and high parts, with the high register pushed in the background and echo effects are magic. Just having Ale sing is a disservice to her and to the song. I realize that Dany can't sing this part, not because she can't change into the lower register fast enough but because what she sings right before that part carries into that section of the song. It's accomplished in the studio version because those parts are overdubbed and Dany can do all those parts easily. Hopefully they will pump in Dany's high register background vocal for concerts similar to the P.S.Y.C.H.O.T.I.C. scream (also do the same for the Evolve scream!) so that this part which is epic in the studio will be as strong in concert. Also, Ale does not want to do lead vocals. How any times does she have to say that? Respect her wishes already. Thank you. 😎

@@pissingelk Point taken about Ale's having expressed a desire not to sing lead, especially since I've noted the same thing. Mea culpa on that. That said, I do like her voice, and it is unique within the band and adds something of interest.

At about 24:20 you touched on the thing that makes Dany so spectacular to me... She can sing while playing a lead part! Who does that?! I've been playing and singing for decades and, as soon as I attempt to stray from the rhythm, it gets ugly. I can't even fathom that. Many go ga ga over Pau's singing while drumming, which is no small feat, I'm sure, but I propound singing while playing lead is an equally superhuman achievement.

@@robertkrawitz8237 I think she plays whatever she's in love with at the moment. She hasn't played the Mason (Live anyway) in a very long time and her Sunburst Sprearfish hasn't been played live in ages as well. She has in the past kept separate guitars in different tunings to play during live events maybe now with their larger budget and a road crew she will have more guitars available on stage... Also I hope Ale doesn't retire her Rachel Bolan and brings it out on the road too.

I've supported The Warning ever since their first album and I'm so impressed with all three sister's talent and growth over these years. To see a comparison of Pau's growth as a drummer, you should watch the 2017 TedX performance of Unmendable. She just destroys the drums in that performance, where as in Choke and Evolve, to me, she has developed a more polished technical style of drumming. Don't get me wrong, she still kills the drums, she just seems smoother now.
