So you have to go back to BAND MAID's earlier album NEW BEGINNING and the song FREEZER. I think the harmonizing has been there all along. The synchronizing singing as well. They are just using it more now than before. With the training that these ladies have I don't think they are learning more - just being more confident in using what they already know how to do. More analysis with the software is a good idea. I know that more software is coming that will be improving on what exists now. Unlike BAND MAID the software has to pull you along or you will stop buying the "new and improved" software.

MISA. All of them really, total package, but MISA MISA MISA is just so groovy. Along with the other bass players mentioned in the comments I want to throw in Phill Lesh. She’s all over the place and exactly where she should be. Hey Mr. Wave could you make this a playlist series? These isolated Maid tracks are one of the best things I could be checking out on all of YTube.

You HAVE to play a filter with the "Bass and Drums" together (If technically possible)!!! It will probably be really mind-blowing, to notice how the two instruments are locked in together.

One of my absolute favorite songs! Saiki's the one that blew me away on this. Being from Chicagoland, I love the blues, and our queen proved beyond a doubt that she can "get down in the basement" as Koko Taylor liked to say when she really wanted to get "down and dirty." On Ryan's reaction, on I think the final verse when she belts out the word "higher" - he literally laughs out loud and covers his mouth. Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' bout!!

I just wanna thank Wave, Dicodec/Alan, Ryan, Champ, JBF, Axe, Wally, Ronin, and actually a bunch of others for delivering reactions and analyses that are worth watching. The coolest thing is not so much that they reinforce or develop my appreciation of Band-Maid more (although they definitely do that), but that _because_ they do that, their reactions to other bands make me appreciate _those_ groups more, because if somebody's making good points I never noticed about a band I might well know better than they do, they're gonna do the same for a new band. Anyway, Miku's scream often give me chills, and the "ah-ah-ah-ah-ah" part is probably the most identifiable hook (amidst all the other hooks, like the opening guitar riff). It's sooooo inventive; there's stuff in rock history that's comparable (the amphetamine stutter on "My Generation" by the Who springs to mind) but I think it's literally never been done before. I remember seeing the teaser video they put out and everybody was like, "What the hell even WAS that?!?!!" The ending has a backwards sample of someone (pretty sure it's not Saiki) singing "I've been thinkin bout you-ou-ou-ou" but all chopped and spliced to match the rhythm.

How complex the instrumental really is, I also only realized by listening to the CD of the score to UW. Even if they shift down a few gears today, their instrumentals are still several levels more complex than comparable songs from the genre. 🔥🤘🏻 In the end, I prefer the complete work, but it's also interesting for once to hear the individual tracks. Thanks for that! 🙏🏻 _____________________ 「 _'Our rock never dies ever. Forever!'_ 」 --- from *BAND-MAID* 'Manners' 🕊

pure awesome wave. ty for this, really enjoyed it. I always have been pretty tuned in to Misa and Akane, I try to explain it to others and most don't seem to hear what I hear. so this is quite refreshing to see both of their magic get revealed for all to hear. I think every listener tunes in to different things even when they try to self isolate during the full mix. well done. the software is not perfect but it was damn good. well done. ty again.

Great work. You'll end up doing a video for every song on the Unseen World album... for sure. In the Manners live video you can clearly hear MISA rip a fantastic bass solo matching Kanami, fantastic every time I listening to it. Really do yourself a favor and listen to each song again... it seems every time I do I find something new I hadn't heard before. No other band has done this to me like BAND-MAID. Keep up the wonderful videos.

Oh man, when I saw that you were doing Manners I got all excited to hear the isolated base part under Kanami's solo, because I had actually managed to pick up on a fair amount of that, but the chorus section totally blindsided me. I feel like Misa's bass playing is one of those scenarios where no matter how much you try to prime yourself and anticipate it being a lot, there always ends up being more than you expected. 😆

From the first time I heard this song, I said that the solo was more of a duet with the bass. MISA often plays more notes than a lot of lead guitarists. When you played the guitar and bass alone, you can hear how they complement each other in much the same way that the vocals do.

This is why we hear a new thing in each and every song from Band-Maid! So many layers! When I first heard this song, I was struck at how good Saiki's vocals were! She has gotten better and better through the years! I was drawn to MISA's bass line in this song, especially the bass under Kanami's solo, like you said really a duet, making it so much better! MISA never seems to rest!

Talking about bass players- I remember Jack Bruce of Cream saying that he had to un-learn all his classical cello playing in order to play in bands from the mid 60s. He developed a sort of highbrid style of part composed and part improvised arrangements for songs. Misa may be doing a similar thing. She definately has that standard slide into an octave riff, I think with fingers as well as using octaves generally anywhere on the fret board often with a pick. Any thoughts.
@surfingasongwave
@surfingasongwave 2 жыл бұрын
I hear it. The solo section in particular sounds similar to Bruce Baker Clapton. Jack Bruce is not as well known as some others from the era but he's right there with Entwistle or anyone else. He played the root notes but he didn't camp on them. Same with MISA. She connects notes, echos the melody or plays a counter to it, she emphasises the bass drum. She's got style.
@spaolozzi53
@spaolozzi53 2 жыл бұрын
Misa has always had echoes of Jack Bruce for me, not so much the studio recordings of Cream but the live tracks on Wheels of Fire, where Jack has the time and space to cycle up his bass lines and go on adventures of his own. Now that Miku has become such a rock solid rhythm guitarist, Misa can spread her wings more. Paz Lenchantin can be proud of her fan.

I have never seen this kind of analysis before and it is fascinating. Manners just proves how absolutely brilliant is Kanami's composition and guitar work and just how good the rest of the band are. Misa seems exceptional pushing the bass parts way beyond the normal. Akane's creative drumming beyond compare and Saiki and Miku's faultless vocals. And this on one of Band Maid's most straightforward numbers. These are the most exceptional musicians, talented beyond belief and utterly charming on and off stage.

I was blown away by Akane7s drums. Apart from her amazing drum fills, I didn't notice that she was that busy with her bass drums. I always thought she had a "fetish" with her twin bass pedals, doing quick bursts of double bass drums. Thanks very much for the isolated tracks! Just thinking about how fast her bass drum kicks are, maybe Akane is just using one pedal for this song.

So we know that Kanami, so far, writes Miku's parts. But I've been transcribing them (to learn guitar better while figuring Miku is a great model for that, and because the print in the scorebook is so dang tiny) and there does seem to be a frequent progression in Miku's repeated parts: from power chords to barre chords to octaves and back to barre and/or power chords. Which to me just confirms that Kanami is a genius orchestral composer and Miku is basically the viola and cello sections combined. Well wait...I guess MISA covers the flashier parts of the cello stuff too.

Haha yeah it's the same with "After Life" another one of their "simpler" songs from Unseen World. They are extraordinary. You're a talented, life-long musician and multi-instrumentalist, with a year's experience listening to Band-Maid so you know "how" to listen to them. That sounds pretentious AF but evidence seems to show that very few people get it from the start; of the Gaijin Guys, for example, Champ was one who did get it immediately and Alan, even with his technical expertise, is someone who took a long time to get there. What I'm saying is that even with these advantages, even you are finding more stuff to appreciate. What hope does the average listener have?
