Finally had a chance to watch this and thanks so much for the walk through! I have to admit that I don't understand the usage of Hi/Lo Pass on the Output as opposed to the Input of the individual effects. So I just need to educate myself on the usage there but I love the concept of a single plugin for the frequently used delay/reverb combination.
@PhilipRikoZen4 жыл бұрын
Just an input, i think the idea is that if you cut before the fx, the fx may again introduce some of those frequencies, meanwhile what you want is to definitively remove them from the sound (for example the low frequencies from a reverb are more often then not just an hindrance, like the meme of the reverb on the sub bass). If you want to remove some frequencies from the original signal (and it's not only about the low and high, it could be some mids to scoop the reverb, or the main frequencies of a synth to make it cut more) you can always put an EQ/C4/F6 before Epic on the send.

So I did demo and eventually get this plugin. This is what I discovered. In order for me to use this the way I'd like to use it, the number of instances I need on a typical track maxes out my CPU quickly. So what I've decided to do is go back to the old way I used to record music back in the stone ages. I record a track and after I'm sure the performance is exactly the way I want it, I commit it to "tape" and then move onto the next track. I print with FX so there's no going back. I continue the process for each track. At the end of the recording process I then go to my mix buss and glue the individual tracks together. It is a lot of work and it isn't easy but the upside is I can now record more tracks than I normally could as CPU consumption is almost zero given everything is a wav file with all FX imprinted on the file itself. Working like this really brought me back 40 years except I'm not limited to the 4 tracks I had back in 1977. My last song, "Adams's Rib" contained more tracks than any song I'd ever done previously. This will now be my new way of working.

Thanks as always for the great video, Warren! For me, one of the strengths of returning delay, reverb, and harmonizer effects to channels on a console (or tracks ITB) is the ability to simultaneously manipulate their multiple return levels via console or control surface faders, allowing you to audition real-time variations of how they are blended. The speed in getting great sounds, as well as "happy accidents" that happen along the way, are impossible when working with a single mouse. It would be AMAZING if Waves introduces an optional, companion CLA Epic USB controller that allows you to manipulate the plugin's parameters in real-time without a mouse, as TC Electronic has done with some of their delay and reverb plugins. Now that would be next level epic! Where do I sign up to be a beta tester? haha Until then, I suspect I'm going to want to get another control surface and assign its faders to the faders in the CLA Epic plugin. This of course means buying another piece of gear after successfully justifying it to my studio partner and wife, haha. Thanks again for everything you do for the community, Warren! Peace, Love, and Ringo, chaz

I was really hoping this would work like the mix hub where you would place an instance of this on every track that needs FX. Then in Epic, you would assign channels to the plugin which would allow you to apply more of a specific effect to an individual instrument and really use epic like CLA's desk. I guess to do this would would need to set up 8 buses with epic and then send individual instruments to the bus? Still wouldn't be the same as CLA routes his console though, right?
@jorykevinberger70474 жыл бұрын
I 120% agree with you. I hoped it would be 1 plugin, with all of his verbs and delays like it is. 1 plugin I could put on 1 aux bus. And then, on each track would be the "source". Inside the source is where I could route where I wanted to the track to go. This way I COULD automate a vocal throw only, while the rest of the vocal goes to a slap and plate, and the drums go wherever I send them etc... same as his console. The way it is now, you'd need multiple instances, because if you get something going for the drums and you send a lead vocal there, it has no choice but to go through the entire chain, as opposed to specific delays and verbs. So now you'd need one for each instrument sub group. And people are going to be putting a lot of reverb and delay on their mix without realizing it's WAY too much, and not only that, the entire point is that CLA puts things into a similar sonic space. So, if folks are setting up Epic for each sub group, and each plugin instance has different settings, then nothing is in the same space anymore. It could be great, it could be a disaster. But simple? No. I hoped for his workflow in the box. There is a way, and they didn't do it. Imagine if a revision of Mixhub had sends from a given track to the Epic. That would be Epic. And I wished they emulated the gear. They name drop these incredible pieces and we don't realize it's "based" on, which means... I don't even know what that means. But we can't say it's a 480 or a yamaha. What it is, is a plate waves made. Warren though? He's Epic, love what he does!! lol.
@danerkel74044 жыл бұрын
@@jorykevinberger7047 Exactly! I feel like they made an awesome plugin but did not solve the user's problem. Who know's could be a DAW to plugin connectivity issue stoping them. Maybe at some point they'll allow the mix hub and epic to connect!
@jdmusicproduction90624 жыл бұрын
Sounds and looks killer! Is there a way to use it as an AUX aux instance and specify what you send to each rev or dly or will whatever you send to it be effected by all the revs and delays? For example send the drums to the room and plate but the vocals to the slap, plate and throw. Thanks for great Review!
@jorykevinberger70474 жыл бұрын
You are the ONLY one who is asking the same question as I am. As that is literally what I think is so cool about a potential plugin based on CLA's workflow. In short. 1 plugin on an aux that has all of his verbs and delays that look like his console. Then, a source on each track that can be sent to 1 or all 8 of the faders inside of the 1 plugin. Otherwise, we will still have to use mutliple instances because whatever we send to the plugin has no choice but to go through the entire chain we have going. So now we need 1 for drums, 1 for vocals, 1 for guitar etc... and now if we use different set ups within each instance of the plugin, nothing will be cohesive, which totally defeats the purpose of sharing the space between instrument sections, there will be WAY too much verb and delay all over the mix, and if we want to send the vocal to a throw, we will still need another instance on an aux or directly on the track, just for that anyhow. And, I wish they just emulated the hardware. For goodness sake, there was SO much potential here. It bugs me that they feel they can name drop the gear and in the fine print say, no no no, it's not emulated. So what plate am I using exactly? Because it's not CLA's. I'd rather pay $129 for them to do it right, than $29 for them to get close. I hate that I still want it. And I hate that it's still blurry and v12 was supposed to better the graphics. argh... My love hate relationship with waves. Cheers!
@jdmusicproduction90624 жыл бұрын
@@jorykevinberger7047 Yeah, I mean this plugin sounds killer and I tried it out yesterday and everyone can tell it sounds amazing but couldn't this be possible if there was a "sidechain" function enabled. Cause I have one plugin in Cubase 11 called frequency which allows 8 Sidechain input channels. But maybe that's not the same thing as what we're talking about. For now I just compromise and use one instance for vox one for drums and one for music. But would be real cool if they made it possible to send to all 8 effects.

Hello Warren, l just got this plugin and it's better then Baby Audio's Spacedout plugin. As a long time sound engineer l've been auxing the vocal delay to the verb unit and it sounded great especially for gang vocals or long fad away words. Thanx for the video as l've never heard about it and lt can do every thing on my Daw that l can do live, YES l LOVE IT!!!

@@GarrettMusic1 im loving the combination of the classic compressors bundle with the CLA Mixhub. Theres just something about those combinations that just works on everything. Occasionally ill add a C6 and the classic deesser to take care of harshness along with the compressors and mixhub but most of the time mixing just about any genre i can get away with throwing the mixhub on every channel and maybe add a the blue stripe 1176 or the 3A and that just about does it. I am also falling in love with the studiorack plugin. Although its free, it is SOOOO Useful. So aside from all the ranting about how much i love Waves plugins and to answer your question, id really probably have to say for mixing live instrument music like country or rock or jazz or anything like that it would have to be the CLA Mixhub. And for more electronic music like pop, edm, hiphop, trap, rnb and stuff like that id have to say the C6 most likely. When it comes to effects though, i love H-Delay and Manny Verb. Manny Verb is my al time Favorite Reverb plugin for Vocals especially in electronic type music. The new ecosphere plugin is freaking dope too. Im so excited to try this out though. Lol i talk too much. I need friends

The best video on this plug-in I have seen. While I might pick it up it has also inspired me to try setting something like this up manually in my DAW using 4 different delays and reverbs. It will be harder to use but also have more flexibility and I can choose the effects I like most. I wonder if this plug-in workflow will become shall we say copied now that this is out there. Great idea and implementation.

They gave away the EchoSphere on Black Friday. It’s basically a smaller version of this plugin... played around with it over the weekend and should’ve known this was coming. The process makes total sense.

Warren thank you so much. Your explanation saved me. I bought it and was lost. The a b c d button had me confused. I went back and placed it on a guitar faaabuuulous. Thanks for the explanation. Oh hy the way it was on an acoustic guitar set.
