A. Nor tec could have not used Haulover inlet. B. Nor tec should have used more throttle, allowing the boat to do the work and keep the nose up, Cap needs more experience.

Wavy... only because you asked. This was an outgoing tide with an on shore wind. Bad conditions for Haulover. Mr. Nor-Tech was probably turning 1700-2000 RPM. He should have added 750-1000 RPM to get the nose up. I would not have put the boat on a plane in the inlet because it was rough enough to pound the boat, but just below plane would have been perfect. Putting tabs down would have helped to get the bow up too, but at his speed, not by much. He could have trimmed his motors up, but I am not so sure that would work on his boat due to cavitation issues. Mr. Nor-Tech, like all of the other Capt you posted today, were too far to the center of the channel. There is no reason to be there, ever unless it's flat calm. He should have hugged the N. Jetty (its deep enough). Then, after clearing the inlet, had he turned N he would have cleared the outgoing tidal current and found smoother seas. He could have then proceeded South after going 1000 yrs into the ocean. Alternatively, he could have hugged the S Jetty as there appeared not to be a lot of anglers on the jetty point.

On every boat that I have ever owned tabs down raises the stern and pushes the bow down. As you mentioned, at his speed the tabs would have probably done little. He definitely needed to get the bow up, but also keep the speed down and def not on plane. I'd much rather be in a boat that takes a little water over the bow than one which is skipping so hard off the tops that my back and hull are at risk. That's what the scuppers are for. Throttle up to raise the nose and the water disappears. High speed is not always the answer. I have watched a lot of these vids and the haul ass crowd often takes a hell of a beating, both the crew and the boat. It seems to happen the most with guys who don't have the waterline to get away with it. And they are the ones who hurt people. Agree with the rest of what you wrote, especially staying out of the tallest waves.

This is probably the Nor-Tech captains first time out when it's this rough. He thought he was being safer by going slow. Since experience is the best teacher he'll have learned that's not the best way to tackle this kind of water. Everyone has to have their first time and most have the benefit of going out with a more experienced captain and seeing how it's done. Not all have that opportunity though. He'll do better next time. As far as redemption... he's already doing better.
