Wawayanda State Park | Kayaking

Did some kayaking through Wawayanda State Park in NJ. Absolutely beautiful foliage and some cool animal sightings as well!

I love Wawayanda, it's pretty much my back yard. Great fishing (lots of pike and bass action and the occasional landlocked salmon) and the atmosphere is second to none for Jersey. It is sad though to see people leave their trash behind. Cool video man.

Absolutely! This was my first time going there. I was blown away that there is a park like this in NJ. Definitely going back there this summer.

Greetings Matt. Nice video and I enjoyed your others. I found this vid through your CX-10 review. I have a rental HC- X2000 arriving tomorrow so that I can do a dry run before I commit to the purchase. I'm shooting similar video as you in the way of a Hero 6 mounted to my kayak and pulling my Sony AX700 out of the dry bag for onboard kayak recording of the environs. The Sony produces wonderfully sharp video but only a 12X zoom, so-so stabilization and no 4K@60p. So I'm sure you know what I'm looking for in the Panasonic. Here are a few things that I do that you might like to try out to improve your videos. I hope that you will accept them in the spirit that I'm offering them and not as criticisms. I like my C-Tug kayak cart that breaks down after the portage and stows in the compartments of my Wilderness Systems 14.5 Tsunami. You may not have the storage on your boat but watching you drag yours was painful. On calm water like the lake I mount the GoPro on a Feyutech G6 gimbal that keeps the horizon level and stabilizes almost all of the rocking motion of the boat. I agree that voice command is a wonderful thing on the Hero 6. With a few button presses on the gimbal, the camera quickly rotates 180 degrees from the forward perspective to the selfie shot for the commentary. The Tsunami is a sit-in with a fairly deep cockpit. The dry bag containing the camcorder only, sits on my legs just below the miniskirt cover across the cockpit. I can get it out of the bag and recording very quickly and have gotten wildlife shots from the kayak that I surely would have missed otherwise. Lastly, GoPro audio sucks and it hurt this video pretty badly. I'm fond of using a lav and Zoom H1 in post to narrate, but nothing beats the presence and relevance of nat. sound commentary at time of acquisition. You might keep this in mind and come up with a solution. If you're going to the trouble and risk of bringing camera equipment on board your boat, a little digital recorder/ lav under your PFD wouldn't seem to be that much of an addition and you could sync in post and greatly improve your audio, arguably one of the most important aspects of a production.

This is some killer feedback, thank you! I have been trying to figure out a solution for stability on the kayak so I will check out that gimbal. Aslo, I do have a h1 and a lab but I didn't have an extra micro sd so I could only record with my GoPro. I just got a micro sd for the h1 though so I'm going to start doing external audio. I hope you have luck with the X2000, I have been really enjoying my cx10. Oh yeah, dragging the kayak was not the best idea hahahaha no real damage but I ordered a kayak cart cause of that.

Dont they have wheel things you can put on the back of the kayak to make it easier to drag up the mountain? If they dont, that would be a nice invention.

@@camilledesimone6625 So this is actually the first time I was at Wawayanda and I didn’t realized there was A) a lower parking lot, B) a boat launch. Needless to say I won’t be dragging my kayak down a path again. Also, Apple Maps doesn’t direct you to the main parking lot so I had to find it myself. I did another video there and I just launched from the beach but I was able to park in the main lot so it was all grass. You should check out the newer wawayanda video cause I was able to film the bald eagles on one of the islands.
