Couple notes to this video:
try not to spill diesel out of fuel filter, otherwise it will be difficult to start the engine after
if you do spill - wipe it out
possible try to do it with fuel lines connected

Looks right pain in the arse, just replaced my belt tensioner, thinking it was the reason, for horrible noise on my Smax, not looking forward to tackling the alternator 😕 thanks for the video.

You can replace pulley in this one without removing alternator, I did it once, but I didn't make a video. Just drop the belt off, use special tool to undo the pulley (it can be very tight), also I raised the engine a little with jack (use padding and go careful) to get over that body panel, you'll know what I mean when you try it. I changed my mind of making video on this one, because of dodginess of raising engine... but it worked for me.

Thank you for this video. This car has the same layout as my 2013 C-Max 2L TDCi. I managed to replace the alternator in my car last year with your video's help but I couldn't access the tensioner nut without removing the wheel for access from underneath. 16 months later my alternator has packed up again and I am trying to replace it again. Got as far as the tensioner. How on earth did you manage to get a spanner round that nut as it wasn't shown in the video? Some quick advice will be appreciated as I have misplaced the wheel locking nut and I am struging for access from the top. There is hardly any clearance in the C-Max. Any suggestions. Thanks

I think you should sort out your locking nut, as the wheel needs to be removable. I'm not sure how easy (or hard) to access tensioner from the top. By the way, I made another video about alternator replacement on the same car, but easier. Hope it helps: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gaqao3qHmcZ4n8U

Thank you for the prompt reply. I managed to gain access. Had to remove the wheel. Do you have a video on reconnecting the tube underneath the fuel filter? Mine came off from the bottom end. Also when I manage to reconnect it do i need to prime it? Must get my car on the road again quickly. Thank you again for your great videos with easy explnations. I have learned so much from you. :-)

If fuel filter is empty, them it needs priming (filling up). I have no experience with that bottom pipe, sorry. Also that car in the video is not mine. In my second alternator video fuel filter is not involved.

Thank you again for replying. First time, last year, I replaced the alternator exactly like in this video by following your helpful clear instructions in this video. This time however I accidentally yanked out the pipe from underneath as at 10.40 point in the video. I have taken the alternator out but before I fit the new one in I have to fit that pipe back but I cannot see a point or a place where it has detached from. Can you please try and let me know where or to what it should be connected to? Also what is that pipe for? If that pipe hadn't come out everything would be sorted. I wonder if a diagram of connection is available. Thank you for your great help. God bless.

From what I can see on 10:41, also I had a look on eBay, where they sell these filter housings - it looks like the plastic end is connected to the housing by 2 little bolts. It depends where you got it disconnected. To me looks like further down it's a push-on hose on that plastic pipe end.

@ANDY-we7mr Sorry, mate, that Ford in the video is not even my car. It's my friend's. And even he doesn't have it anymore for a couple of years. I have nothing to refer to. It was a while ago when I filmed it. All I can say is that when fuel lines get disrupted, if you get a lot of air inside, you need to bleed it. Have a look for videos where the fuel filter gets replaced. Check all pipes and connections. I can see you are stuck with this for some time. But don't worry, you'll get there. I've been in similar situations. Stay cool, and you'll work it out. I believe in you!

This is the same as 2013 2.0TDCi Kuga as well, just getting my alternator out now to change the pulley that failed

how do you tell that the pulley failed?

It's supposed to be clutch-pulley (like a bycicle wheel - you keep rolling even you're not turning pedals), so when engine revs drop it keeps spinning. If it gets stuck, then it causes vibration. It has small pulley, so revs of alternator are way higher than the engine and it behaves like a flywheel that affects smoothness of the engine... What? 😁 Long story short - it gets noisy and vibrates!

@@gasdude1 it was rattling a little bit for a while, but then the pulley came apart and was rubbing on the chassis rail making a horrible screaching so knew something was going very wrong!

Hi, i changed the alternator on my ford galaxy 2009 2.0 tdci yesterday. I put everything back in place but now the car is not starting battery power is good too! Can you please tell me what it can be? Just mention when i removed the fuel filter i spilled quite abit of fuel ! Please help

Probably, there is an air gap in the fuel system, and it needs to be primed. Is it turning, but not starting?

How did you put the tensioner back in?

I didn't take it out. All I did was turning it clockwise to release tension on a belt. You can lock it with a pin or carefully release it back - effectively it's a pulley on a lever with spring. I didn't undo any bolts or nuts on it.
