The thing that makes this game so exciting to me, is knowing its development is in good hands. No worries about store skins, xp boosts, direct level buying, limited time FOMO events, energy systems designed to make you buy more energy to keep playing, no pop ups on screen tempting me to throw away money at the new expensive item EVERY TIME I LOG IN. NOTHING aggregious or greedy about Brighter Shores, and I can confidently say there never will be. The Gower brothers have openly talked about how much they regret selling Runescape. They have their wealth, now they can make a game they're passionate about, with a focused on not making the same mistakes. It's just a traditional gaming experience with a low entry, reasonably priced monthly subscription being all you need to sink thousands of hours into the game. Genuinely I cannot be happier, and am so excited to play a game where the focus isn't just about how much money they can literally suck out of my bloodstream.

there's no micro transactions for now. there's just episode paywalls and an endless grind loop which pretty much leads to nothing rewarding. After 100 hours, I dropped it and I might come back in a few months/years when they decide to put 'fun' in the game or any content that doesn't feel punishing for playing.
@oots479026 күн бұрын
@SimonRobeyns There shouldnt ever be microtransations, the devs have been outspoken enough about that, and we should be able to trust them on it. Honestly though coming back in a while 100% a great option. This is the worst state the game will ever be in, which speaks to how good it is because it's far from awful, but if its not enough for ya. give it time to cook and come back in 6 months to a year and see if it suits ya better, itll look quite different and is hopefully more to your liking!

@@oots4790 I really hope so, I was a massive fan of runescape when I was 12, as it really seemed to suck you into an actual mmo world. This game feels like a afk mobile game in its current state. That can't really be what the game is all about right.

There's a lot of people hating on the game in the comments, but I'd actually love to see more. I've been playing since the game came out, I tried getting friends into it and like many others they didn't like it and quit, but I kept playing. It's a very divisive game, you either love it or don't and that's fine. If you do plan to play more I think it's worth trying out Episode 3 and 4. Even if it's just for a month and if it ends up not being your kind of game. Edit: You actually already got past the major hurdle that is unlocking Storage Rifts, so now when you do anything anywhere it should be a lot more cozy. There's something charming about just turning your brain off, getting a full inv of ore in episode 3 and banking it at the storage right nearby. The crafting rooms are usually always chatty because why not, everyone's in a room all grinding the same stuff so might as well strike up some conversations. If you're not a fan of combat at the moment I think that's more than fine, you don't really need to grind hard at it to beat the main story and Andrew stated he's already working on Special Attacks and the like so that might make combat much more enjoyable.

A common misconception is that the game is slow. The assumption that skills slow down at later levels is not actually true: levels come in at a flat rate. At 150 knowledge points (lamps) start to drop off but the xp you get for active/passive methods speed up, so it balances out. The reason the levels cap at 500 is because there isn't really the oppressive level curve that runescape has, it's a lot flatter and the xp rate from doing level-appropriate content scales to match it. Game has only been out for a week and someone's already got 500 guard.

So far, even though they're killing it with the updates, I find this to be moreso of a casual gathering simulator than full on RuneScape. The combat is flawed, and as far as I've played there's no real MMO content, bosses, etc. If that content exists, why do I have to play for 10 hours to access it? It just needs to be finished. Good effort, just needs more.

@@Waydots It's actually a little more complex than that. Brighter Shores has 2 major milestones that completely change the exp formula. 20, so 1-19 is really fast. 20 will be your first major change and you *feel* it. And then later again at 200. A lot of people consider hitting 200 to be hitting a 99 in runescape while 500 is going for 200m exp. Now, the interesting thing is every level from 20 to 200 assuming you always stick to the highest thing you just unlocked should always take you roughly the same amount of time, so 79 won't be that much longer than say 33. Whereas in Runescape you *definetly* feel some levels slow down to a crawl, mostly because of never unlocking a better method. Like with Mining, oh boy you hit 55 mining, you can mine Mithril now! You won't. Nobody does. Even people in their 90's will still be mining the Iron Rocks they unlocked at level 15.

I really wanted to like this game, after thousands of hours in Runescape, I just could not get into this. I'm sure the professions mesh together eventually, but I couldn't see the bigger picture and felt a massive disconnect between zones / skills. "The Next Runescape?" I think for Brighter Shores to be its own game it has to shed the community preconceptions about it being Neu Runescape. That's gonna be rough when a lot of the game marketing is built on the name of the Gower brothers. But unfortunately I do think that BS has no future. Not because the gameplay has pain points that will inevitably be addressed but because... nobody young is getting hooked on it. In a generation of games where you immediately get in and play, with work earning you cosmetics instead of numbers that let you farm green fish instead of blue, we're seeing this kind of game design start to get phased out.

@Ignas_29 күн бұрын
I like OSRS, but I didn't like this. In RuneScape, you have a vast variety of options, you unlock new areas, places and methods to skill. I think RuneScape is a game of logistics and optimization, whereas in BS everything is already pre-optimized for you (small maps, only 1-2 places to do any particular activity, etc.) and everything is just about grinding. And the progress in RuneScape is persistent - I level up and I can fight dragons, or I can go back and absolutely demolish goblins. The goblins don't just become world-class threats because you level up your combat level.
