Thank you for these videos. I think you are doing a fantastic job with the editing and narration of your playthroughs and that you deserve way more recognition for the quality of your work. This is as good as it gets in this hobby and hope you reach whatever goal you set for yourself.

Thank you so much for the kind words and I really appreciate your good vibes! I'm just trying to make the best videos I can and hopefully my best will continue to get better as I gain more experience. I'm thrilled that so many people find my channel helpful and/or entertaining. Every week I want to put out an interesting video, but I don't have many goals beyond that. Thanks for the support!

I got to say your videos are the only ones that I am willing to watch the entire playthrough. Very clear, concise explanations of the rules, how the AI works and your thought process (which really helps bring out the tactic/strategy flavour of the games). Your editing and shots also make it super easy for me to follow the flow of the game. You have convinced me to get many games just for solo play. I hope more people will discover this under the radar board game channel of yours. Keep putting out more amazing content! 💪

That is so nice of you to say! I'm really happy my videos work for you. I try to focus on making the playthroughs easy to follow because I know how hard it can be, especially if you don't know the rules. I struggle myself. I hope you continue to enjoy my channel for a long time. Thanks for the message of support!

Great tutorial and play through. I absolutely love this game (and most Garphill games, TBH). I really appreciate your quality and thoroughness. Very well done. One small rules clarification: whenever you pay a coin/provision to prevent the bot from taking a card with your influence, you’re actually paying it to the BOT. Because it does not take or use coins/provisions, your cost is paid to the bank, but I believe you still move their board token spots equal to the number of coins/provision paid.

Great video, I've played all of the AI's for this game and the Space Card one seems to me to be the hardest. Also, I think you can count the blue "default rest action" that is part of our board as a tucked villager for the pairs of villagers and caravan tiles space objective, so you technically should have scored one more point.
@TotallyTabled

Ah, good to know. Thanks for the rules clarification. I definitely need all the points I can get. I agree that the space ai feels the hardest to beat. Not sure if that was an intentional part of the design. Thanks so much for watching!

An excellent coherent explanation of this very clever game …I love GarpHill games …and enjoy the challenge they present …although I do find their rule books a tad confusing sometimes …with this game despite reading the rules 1/2 doz times I still missed things that your video cleared up …but they are on the whole worth the time and investment …my only issue with their games is I have purchased the 2 big boxes they produced and I really think they could have much more thought into the insert …but on saying this Wayfarers has one of the better inserts !

Great video, thank you for making it! It helped a lot with a few questions that I had. Just a question about the worker placement action you took at 24:30 ...don't you also have to pay for the upgrade tile? I think the symbols that let you take an upgrade tile for free have also coins with a red cross printed on them.

Hi Shaggy! Great videos as always. How do you rank Scholars and this Wayfarers in your top lists for solo? What other solo experiences would they be similar to?
@TotallyTabled
@TotallyTabled 4 ай бұрын
That's a good question. I haven't played Scholars yet, but I should get it to the table soon. I like Wayfarers a lot. I'd love to see an expansion that made the dice building a bit more interesting. The solo mode is very well done and opponent is fairly easy to manage. The Garphill games feel very similar to me, so if you've played Paladins or Viscounts, it is the same vibe. It is probably in the 75-100 range on my personal top 100 solo games, but I haven't developed that list yet. Thanks for watching!

One question, in order for "rest" action to be triggered for AI, does there have to be three same-color cards face-up already? (That is, "rest" is triggered as soon as the "fourth" same-color card is played) or rest is triggered at the start of AI's turn "if" there are already three same-color cards face-up? Can you please clarify this?

This is just sooo difficult. I bought this game, but I think I'll get back to it later. So many things going on at different places and after half an hour I still don't know what the influences are for. Also, the AI seems pretty hard to manage.
@TotallyTabled
@TotallyTabled Жыл бұрын
Don't give up! These heavier games can definitely be a struggle to learn, which is why I record my fourth or fifth play of a game and not my first. A first and even second play won't really bring the fun -- the fun is in the discovery and seeing the game slowly come into focus. Patience is key and not everyone is going to be willing to put up with the learning curve of some of these games and that is okay. My advice is to always watch my full playthrough and then read the complete rulebook with the game set up in front of you, moving and manipulating pieces as you read. Return to the playthrough as needed, and then play a learning game not worrying about score, looking up questions as they arise. This is the technique I use. Hopefully that helps. As for the influences, they are used to take special bonus actions -- so spending a yellow influence lets you increase or decrease dice twice, blue influence lets you treat a die as if it has a boat icon on it, and the black influence lets you move again when journaling. They are also worth victory points at the end of the game if you have majorities. Thanks so much for watching and good luck!

Just a rules clarification. You stated that the worker placement above the land, water, and next to inspiration cards require 1 or the other color. Not true. On p 16, to pick an action above the land cards, you must place the green AND yellow worker on the card that the action is under. It is not an "either or" situation. Same goes for the actions above the water cards and the actions next to the inspiration cards.
@TotallyTabled
@TotallyTabled Жыл бұрын
You are misreading that. It says "may". It means if a yellow worker is already there, you may place a green. You only play one worker per action. Look at the example on page 17.

I guess you deleted my comment? I did not mean to offend, I was simply expressing my inability to grok this game. My loss of understanding the meaning of the actions in this game was not a critique of your playthrough. Simply an opinion, but maybe you remove any like “negative” commenting.

I'm not sure what happened to your comment. I didn't delete it. Sometimes YT will quarantine a comment and require me to either approve or deny it. But I'm not seeing it in jail either. Maybe YT deleted it on its own, but I've not experienced that before. Very strange. Sorry about the confusion-- I did read you message yesterday and just didn't get around to responding yet. Things have been busy. Games like these can be difficult to grok and that is completely understandable. It is all about patience or just deciding this game isn't for you and moving on. I've definitely done that for several games. Thanks for watching!
