Wilma Ford Transit Mid Roof Camper Van Conversion by Wayfarer Vans

Meet Wilma - the newest camper van in the Wayfarer lineup! She’s ready for adventure with tons of storage, and you can take advantage of the Ford Transit’s AWD to tackle the roughest roads your outdoor adventures may bring.
Wilma is our conversion for the Ford Transit mid roof van with a 148” wheelbase. Why did we go with the mid roof? Because the mid roof height is a great option for folks who want a camper van that is easy to drive around town and it comes in at a slightly lower price point than the high roof Wilford.

Love your economical conversions especially now the Transit. We opt'ed for the top of the line Storyteller Overland van. Since that time we have sold it and are traveling the world. But keep Vanlife in our thoughts! We have been following you guys since day one of our research and like the way you are progressing! Why are the shelves sooooo shallow? Just wasted space in our opinion. Just make it 9 inches in depth instead of 6. It won't matter with headspace. Keep up the great work! We keep wanting to pull the plug on World Travel right now and get back to Vanlife USA!!!

Really happy to see this video - my partner and I are looking to do our own conversion down the road, but used high roof models are hard to come by in our neck of the woods (plus the added cost as you mentioned). We’re only 5’5” and 5’8” so I wondered if a mid-roof would be sufficient.

Hi John - thanks for the kind words! It can be raised higher easily, but not lower due to the brackets in the van wall that we attach the bed platform to.

Can this be done on the MidRoof Wagon (the Transit with the windows)? How is it insulated? I like the overhead gear pockets, but would want the over head cabinets to be about 2 inches deeper. Can this be on the 130 WB as well as the 148 WB? Laughing out loud at racing back for the potty:) And I want one of those fuzzy white birds to match my whit poodle!

Hi Susan! Our Wilma conversion is only on the cargo 148" WB mid roof Transit, and we can't make any adjustments to the dimensions of the overhead cabinets. By keeping the same layout in each van, we're able to keep our prices low and our install times quick. But, we can talk about the fuzzy chicken upgrade - just let us know 🐣

Hi Dom, This is the Ford Transit which is closer to 20 ft and its the only ford length we convert. If you are looking for something in the 17 ft range I recommend our Walter conversion which is a Dodge RAM Promaster and is roughly 18 feet.

Hi Christine, the cost of the conversion is $10,750. New mid roof Transits run around $50k, but we can also convert used vans. We do not create a bunk bed option, but you may want to check out the Wayfarer Vans Fan group on Facebook where a lot of folks share DIY modifications they've made.

Not yet, but we're working on some exciting things with our designer. Stay tuned. And until then can you leave out a bowl of Cheerios for the weekend? Ship them to the grandparents? Send them to a nice summer camp? Just kidding - this is not actual parenting advice. We love kids, some of us have them and it's rad to see families adventuring outside!

We've had several Wayfarians do just this through some aftermarket seat installers once they've had our conversion done. Check out our FB fan page for lots of examples from our community. But we do want to make it easy for our adventuring families!

Can the bed frame be positioned lower to allow for sitting up in bed?

No, the bed can be raised with our bed risers if you need more room in the garage, but it can't go any lower due to the placement of the bed brackets.
