I know i will get a lot of hate for what im about to say but thats the way i feel. First of all, i think that the part 1 and 2 are the best games ever created to date. I think that Joel is one of the best fictional character from any game and he is more close to my heart then most real persons, but i think that he deserved what he got in part 2. Think about it, to us Joel is amazing, because we have been with him from the first part, we know hes story and pain so we are subjective about it, but to others, like Abby and her friends he is nothing more then a maniac, a hunter and a ruthless man. Imagine how much damage he has done until this point, how many people he hurt during hes violent past, how many children were left alone due to hes actions. The death of Joel made him a martyr and cemented hes status like one of the best and well written character ever created, but in the end was a well deserved death. A lot of people say that the creators of the game did Joel wrong because they killed him, but i dont think so, in fact they were kind to him, they gave him a few good and peaceful years for him to be a father again and in the process find some redemption, and that was much more then he deserved for all the atrocities he had commited, belive me. Peace out all !

When people tell him how much they hate Abby I yell them imagine the last of us if it had been told from Abbys point of view. An estranged father and daughter try to make it to the fireflies they do and then they find the cure only the cure takes killing a girl to do it and then the game ends with them starting the surgery. Part 2 comes around and it starts with the end of the first time some maniac who you HIRED TO find the girl kills dozen of men and murders Abbys father and takes the girl. You would want to kill joel just as much as Abby did if it had been ABBY instead of ellie all along.

I agree with you, i remember when i HAD to kill the surgeon in TLOU1 in my first play, i didnt want to but the game made me kill him, i mean how many surgeons are alive in that apocalyptic world? i didnt like that Joel killed them, they where not a threat, but in the end i though they would be just NPCs, but no xD ... i still think most of the people didnt like the way they killed Joel because you dont play more time with Him and Ellie, show us more of their relationship and then start to prepare us for his death, but i agree that they killed him in the beggining because they had to develop the story, that would not happen if they killed him in the middle or the end of the game.

Neither, that's one of the major themes of this game. There is no good or bad; there is only people, their mistakes, and the forgiveness either granted or denied to them. There is no reward or punishment when you die, all that remains of you is the love you gave and the pain you inflicted; and every single one of us leaves both those marks.
