I am recovering from cancer and have low energy so they parked me at the Southern Raised Bluegrass show to rest. What a treat to hear your heavenly bluegrass gospel songs. I ended up staying through three shows because I didn’t want to watch any of the others. You have a handsome and gifted family!

So my husband and I just heard this fantastic group again at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri on Saturday the 4th of July! Sadly, because of the low park attendance due to the Covid virus, the audience was small. But they still sang and performed their heart out!! Dueling Banjos with guitar man and banjo player - entertaining. Foggy Mountain Breakdown with the lead singer and fiddle gal -no words. Mostly loved the gospel songs and words, though.

Howdy, Bro! This hymn has the same effect on me. I got that crappy coronavirus and I'm coughing out my lungs... Wanna get somehow a smile on the faces of those attending my burial and I think this hymn will make my day (or their day at least ;-) ... ). I'll definitely ask my congregation to play and sing this hymn at my burial. Only, they'll need the musical notes to do so. I'll ask SR if they would exceptionally send them to my adress and to be sure to the adress of my congregations prayer house. Hope they will be so kind to do so. I think this hymn has the potential and is able to bring comfort even to my widow and my orphans. That hymn is just great! Strange, I feel somehow excited, like a lil boy before Xmas or maybe more like an old stallion which remarks that his rider is guiding him home to his stable where food and water and his herd are awaiting him. We have a proverb here, saying this: Hoimtsou rennt der Gaul vi vun alloi! That means literally: On its way home, the horse runs as from its own. (Meaning you don't need to push a horse which has recognized that it's now going into the direction of his homestable, it's running from alone anyway. ;-) ... )

I have been singing my own version for over 2 decades... and English isn't even my first language. That is the beauty of songs like this. The lyrics are universal yet they touch us on a very personal level like no other... One day, I may share mine. But this one will stay with me forever! I will be listening to it and singing along in my heart... on my next long journey to see my mother. Thank you, SR! 🙏

This song sums up my mothers early life, and what she would have hoped for during the depths of the depression. She grew up toiling in the cotton fields of Arkansas. She rocked her little sister asleep who was dying of starvation. Her father made and sold moonshine to have some money for food, but sampled a poisonous batch that put him in a coma and a mental hospital. Her mother did her best to raise five children on a meager garden. Poverty, prayers, and looking to heaven was the life they lived.
