Waylon said that Jessie always looked like she was 16. He was right. They were each others biggest fans. She wrote this and threw it away. She didn't think it was good enough. Waylon disagreed. They were great solo, but magical together. Thank you for posting one of my favorite duets of them. You can see and feel the mutual love and admiration. At the end he said " there goes the better part of me."

I saw Waylon one time in Neurnburg, Germany in 82 or 83. Maybe the same tour. He told my friend’s little girl about his boy Shooter that looked just like him “beard and all”.

Waylon was in Germany in 1983. After he returned to the United States, he stopped his severe cocaine usage “cold turkey”. Waylon refused to go into a drug rehab clinic, saying that he was the one who got himself addicted, so he was the one who was going to end his addiction. Waylon and Jessi rented a cabin in the Arizona desert, and Waylon detoxed himself from cocaine, with only Jessi’s help. After he detoxed and had a clear mind, Waylon said that he could see on Jessi’s face what a terrible strain his addiction had put on her. Waylon never went back to using drugs. Waylon told the story in his 1996 autobiography.

Such a beautiful song! Such a great couple!! Waylon wrote in his 1996 autobiography that Jessi composed this song for him when he was suffering from Hepatitis in the early 1970's. She evidently didn't think it was "good enough", so she threw it in the trash - only to have Waylon later recover it. It went on to eventually became their "signature song". Jessi sang this song alone for the first time at Waylon's 2002 Memorial Service, after he passed away from complications of Diabetes. They were married from 1969 to his death in 2002.

I.m upset that i met kenny rogers as a young child, and he looked down on me when i needed accepance and love as a child and didn't get it.
