I was one of the lucky ones. I started with Waylon in early 70's & never left him. Thru all the phases. Live in Midwest & was able to see him 8 times alone, 2times with Willie & once with Highwaymen. During the times around the Willie era they came out & "visited". It was a magic time. Waylon's music is still magic for country music.

I can remember going to a drive in movie in 1967 and watched the movie Nashville Rebel and was hooked on Waylon Jennings. Also, a high school friend had that LP and a couple more of Waylon s early LP's. Can't tell you how many times, that I've sung along to his tunes over those many years. Great interview. The Buddy Holly part was emotional to listen to. What a performer that Waylon was. One of the best ever.

I saw him with the highwaymen Melb Australia in the middle 90s. Toward the end went down to the front of the stage and stood in awe looking at all that talent in 1 place. Left right after the show and saw the menfolk down near the bus. 18 years later I talked to an elderly couple who had been to the show and stayed behind for 45 minutes waiting for the crowd to disperse. There were 300 of the attendees and what happens is that Willie came out with his guitar and sang to the 300 for 45 minutes.

People do a lot of belly aching, especially the country music fans that real music is dead and now much better W.J. and Willie and all the Legends. Cannot argue with them... we are just people who know better, have been gifted with the sense, and the taste to appreciate better music. What we should be doing more is praising that technology makes it just as easy to access the material to hear these people and to see them alive as it is to listen to that new junk. KZbin has made it possible to relive and to listen to the real good stuff and to simply just ignore that commercial garbage. It is a bit annoying to hear these singers mention the Legends in their songs, like their music can stand up to what they were doing their whole careers - there you go I am complaining too

I have to disagree with people not liking Emery style of interviewing, theres a lot to cover; how else are you going to get everything in that you want to cover, i have done interviews and you have to take control to cover what you want otherwise guest will take up too much time rambling and you have to move things along; read the book; its a great book; great interview with a clear headed waylon, my favorite singer along with cash, kristopherson and nelson.

Just made it through Emery's interview with Merle Haggard. Ir was a struggle because it seemed as if Emery was not listening to Merle who never got to finish a story. Flat rude! As much as I wanted to hear Waylon's interview, after 8 minutes of Emery's constantly cutting him off I hit stop. Gonna try to find another interview with a considerate, respectful host.

I always wondered if Waylon used an image consultant because it seems every decade that he changes his look. Some of it is natural aging but the clothes changed also. I'm sure mine did too.
@waylonvids2 жыл бұрын
He simply understood the concept of reinvention and growing artistically. I think the image he had at any given time was a reflection of where he was as an artist.

I can clear this up for you. There is an interview Waylon did for TNN I'm 1999. In that interview he said he coukdnt understand how these musicians have image consultants. I can send a link. I've been a fan for 22 years and I've read almost everything. He didn't need an image consultant. He was very bright and self aware and aware of what was changing.

@Know Music Man Waylon quit cocaine about 18 years before died, somewhat more than "a few." No doubt, though, the 21 years he spent on coke & uppers did plenty of damage, as well as the cigarettes that he only quit (supposedly) after he had by bypass surgery in the late 80's. Everybody has vices though. Why do you want to emphasize his? He was a he'll of a lot more that just a smoking tweaker.
