I don’t think anyone can dispute that he is the G.O.A.T. There are fans who will say that this one or that one is the best they are wrong. Even if Ovechkin manages to break his goal total, there are still so many unbroken Gretsky records that no one is even close to. Ovechkin still needs 72 goals. He will be 38 in a couple of weeks. The average age of retirement for an NHL player is 28 - 30 years old. The oldest NHL player is Craig Anderson who is 41.. If Ovechkin can stay healthy, he is likely to do it. He certainly seems healthy enough….lol

6:47 Not to confuse you but Gretzky scored a hat-trick in the Campbell Conference Finals _(or rather, the SEMI-finals)_ against the Toronto Maple Leafs, but the Los Angeles Kings lost in the Stanley Cup Final to the Montréal Canadiens (the team that I support BTW), who are the last Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup.

In hockey a goal and assist are both worth 1 point. So Gretzky has 2800 career points. The person with the second most amount of points is Jagr with 1900. He has almost 1000 points more than him. The great stat at the end is that even with 0 goals gretzky still has more assists than anyone else has goals + assists.

Take away all the goals and he’s still the top point getter of all time. Did not know that. Unbelievable. The only guy comparable is the Scrabble champion, who is equally freakish. There must be others.

Good reaction. However, you misunderstood something. When Gretzky got 50 goals in 39 games, and finished that season with 92 goals, the previous record was not 50 goals. So he actually broke TWO records here. The 50 goals in 39 games (which nobody will ever come close to breaking.), and 92 goals in a 76 or 78 game season. Which also will never be broken again, I don't think. Unless in 20 years they drastically change the game of hockey. And, by the way, the ONLY reason Gretzky has no official NHL rookie records, is that because he played a season in the WHA before they got absorbed, he was not eligible as a rookie, even though it was his first season in the NHL, and he was still under the age that they usually allowed to start.

Like in Football, there are great players or GOATs from each era. For example, Pele from 58 - 70. Maradona approached Pele's status in the 80s, but there are differences in equipment, training and especially the rules - Pele was subject to a lot of abuse, though much un seen because of lack of television coverage in that era. With all the injuries he incurred plus the amount of goals he scored being far more than any other player. I would argue Pele is the Football GOAT. Plus over the years as players from different continents merged into teams on the more affluent leagues, a better comparison can be made for more current players. For hockey, there was separation of top leagues due to the Cold War - West v USSR. Little direct competition of the worlds top hockey players was common for many decades. USSR had some great players, but hard to compare with NHL players until recently, say early 1990s. In the past NHL era's there was Rocket Richard; Bobby Orr (I think was the best all round player ever, defense, offense, checking, fighting - he could do it all like no other); Mario Lemieux played a little after Gretzky had entered the league (check out Canada vs USSR Canada Cup 1987) and overlapped for some years. I would pick: Orr, then Lemieux, then Gretzky for NHL GOATs. I can't comment on the past Russians, but there were some great ones.

Oh Mann 😂 I’ll definitely check out the videos you mentioned and thank you for the feedback but let’s agree to disagree on Pelé being the goat of Football. Almost everyone now accepts that Messi is really the goat. Also judging by the I would say Gretzky is far beyond any other player. After seen the players you mentioned, I’ll probably be able to formulate a case for Gretzky.

No other player, not Ovechkin, not Limeau, not Jagr, not Crosby, not McDavid, not McKinnon, not Mathews...are even close to Gretzky HOWEVER this year another Canadian player just entered the NHL - Connor Bedard - he might be as good or better than Gretzky and will be the one to watch! He plays for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Mario Lemieux was the only who maybe can not be far from Gretzky if he was not injured like he was in is career. injured and cancer to . and Lemieux when he was draft by Pittsburgh he was alone . no good players there for alots of seasons. Gretzky was in a far better team (the edmonton oilers) . but anyway we never saw .

@@MBDTalk Gretzky was more a playmaker than Lemieux. 2 totally different players but the stats count and Gretzky have just incredible stats. He was the GOAT of all team sports for sure.
