Wayne Krantz: Known globally for his uncompromising musical vision, staggering virtuosity and deep reserves of soul, Wayne Krantz is one of very few modern guitarists to venture beyond the instrument's limitations and create an identifiably original style and sound. Good Piranha/Bad Piranha is his full-throttle double-take on four contemporary pop and hip-hop songs, from which he plunders the textural, rhythmic and harmonic intrigue that has come to define each of his unique projects.
Richard Spaven has supplied the drums for many artists on stage and in the studio inc. José James, Flying Lotus, The Cinematic Orchestra, Snarky Puppy, Guru's Jazzmatazz, Mark de Clive Lowe, 4Hero and Gregory Porter to name but a few.
Working closely with such a diverse range of artists must bare influence upon Spaven's own compositions, in which some how the drums bridge the gap between the worlds of jazz and electronic music. Spaven's debut release '5ive's EP' (Jazz Refreshed) quietly turned heads. Most recently it featured on best selling video game 'Grand Theft Auto V'. With a guest appearance by José James on the hypnotic 'Maz'. José James (Blue Note Records) said: "Richard Spaven is one of the most unique artists in the world. Triple threat drummer, composer, and producer, his voice rings true with clarity and promise. He is the point where jazz meets the world".

Black Swan is a cover of the Radiohead song? I love the Krantz version but have a hard time hearing all that much of the original in it. Just maybe one of the guitar riffs? It's still so awesome.

I just watched a 20 minute video where he was teaching a class on guitar. He’s a fucking genius. I mean he really has a completely novel point of view. It’s a bit like Jeff Beck, the profit, honor his name; as soon as Jeff gets one note, you know it’s Jeff. But Wayne Wayne is heavy. He is it kills. He’s a killer he’s a fucking genius. I can’t say enough about how intelligent and available and open and authentic this teaching session was. And as I watched it, I realized that all good musicians share at least important thing with one another, and it’s this. Hot solos are great, they’re a lot of fun. Maybe it’s a good way to meet members of whatever sex you wanna meet to have sex with people you wanna meet, etc., but at the end of the day it is the melody and the harmonic architecture that supports that melody and places, the individual notes in what can only be described as a constellation, it’s a type of architecture, if you will. So I was very impressed. And if someone who began his Professional Music at age 14, and who was teaching adults guitar at that time, etc. etc. I want to shout out to people like Wayne that it’s not true that those that can’t do it teach. That’s a mean spirited piece of propaganda that should be removed from the canon. Is not yes there are bad music teachers, but it’s not because they can or cannot play. One of the reasons why is such such a fantastic player is he has the generosity of spirit to teach others what he is discovering and he said he said that plainly a number of times in his lecture.

Great upload! Noticed that Wayne has a little more " fir " ( distortion ) in his tone for this gig. And this set list has some great tunes: AC/DC's "Black In Back, " MC Hammer's " Can't Touch This, " some Hendrix tunes ( " Manic Despression " and " Foxy Lady " ). Great stuff. Thanks to all at Ronnie's for this stream. I don't get the chance to see Wayne & his crews since he doesn't always come out to the West Coast much. But he's an outstanding musician.

@uubuuh
@uubuuh 5 жыл бұрын
WK introduced this song as "Mars" at the 8/15/18 clinic set at Berklee with Wood/Almond. His own composition, not a Piranha reworking of something else. Love the slight down-tempo here and Scott with a pick, playing melodically on the motif, as well as some nasty octave box while WK works out the primitive deep with the whammy at 1:24:52.

@@timcardona9962 Love Wayne Krantz, think he's a genius but more often than not geniuses can go off the farm at times.. Coltrane did it, Pat Metheny did it with his Ornette Coleman synth guitar excursions and for my ear and taste I think Wayne does too.. As human beings we're flawed so I don't buy into anyone being above scrutiny.. I've listened to Wayne explain his improvisational philosophy and bottom line throwing away all the musical vernacular associated with your body of work and creating everything strictly in the moment is hit or miss and can be tedious at times.. It's a slight bit of a contradiction to say everything you're doing is in the moment but always go to the ring modulator in the same songs.. etc if it was purely spontaneous then sometimes you'd use that thing and other times you wouldn't.. Having said that I have absolute respect for Wayne Krantz because I know he's an absolute bad ass ! It's just the catch 22 of that philosophy .. when he's on he's amazing.. transcendent even.. but when he's off... well ... damn ... hard to take listening to five minutes of that thing ... for me .. but ... I take the good with the bad

@@Avatar7x7 I hear ya man. I don't particularly like that sound but when I hear it I typically pay more attention to the bass & drums, which I think is part of the intention. So it doesnt really detract for me as opposed to Metheny's synth guitar which really dominates the mix and is impossible to ignore when its happening haha

I joined Wayne's patreon in 2020 and he had over 230 paid members, now he has 110. I deleted my membership because he would regularly give off a shitty attitude towards people asking questions that he didn't like. All of the questions were just about art and music. A bunch of us messaged each other about this. And he wonders why he isn't as successful as he would like to be.

Not sure why you prohibit a photo. You do not want people to capture their memories forever? I was a brand new Wayne Krantz fan JUST NOW....until this girl said "no pictures". I get you dont' want a bunch of flashes and cell phone screens. but NO PICS AT ALL? (Edited)...come on Wayne...come (edited) on. . Rock and roll is full of AWESOME photographs. I guess I will never be ABLE TO ATTEND A Wayne Krantz performance. BANNED from taking a photo to remember it by? Cry a little.

You'll always remember how good it was. You don't need a pictures for that. The pictures are not going to remind you how good the sound and music was. And no, we don't want people to be flashing all over the place with their phones. We want our audience to fully focus on the music. That is why people come in at the first place. Not to have someone waving theirs screen every 2 seconds in front of them while watching their favourite artist or discovering a new artist.

@@RonnieScottsClub We will have to disagree then. I have poster and magazines FULL of great concert pictures. EPIC historic photographs for the ages. But your puny band here? No photos? Come on. Memories fade. A simple photograph triggers sights sounds and even smells. I get no flash.....I get that you want people to invest. But no photographs at all...is absolutely ridiculously asinine. I guess we should have NO photographs or posters of Jimi Hendrix? Come the fuck on. STUPID!
@RonnieScottsClub
@RonnieScottsClub 5 жыл бұрын
No, no disagreement here. This is not a debate. The photographs and postersn you are talking about haven't been taken by someone waving their phones in the air but by professional photographers who respected the audience and the artists and made themselves discreet when taken the pictures. You do not seem to understand the process here and your language is rather disrepectful and rude so we'll have end this discussion here. Thanks.

@@RonnieScottsClub I do admit...my language was uncalled for. I sincerely apologize. But don't use that excuse to excuse my position. Yes...those classic photos were taken by permitted pros. I get it. That was the technology of the day.. But your little baby concert HERE....compares to those EPIC concerts? I am sorry...with all...DUE respect...you are full if it. Let the people take a pic but no videos. It;s very simple. Unless you think you are better than all those who came before you. It IS a debate because you made it one when you first replied to me. I do understand the "process" of entities being overzealous and commandeering. I do understand the process of no video, I get it! .....but flashless photographs? What is the harm to your money? YOU...do not understand the importance of that. I suspect it's ego or greed or both. You either think your little band is too good...or that you should profit more from it. What a very sad and pathetic view. Let fans take a photograph. Please!

@@RonnieScottsClub I have severe memory issues and take photos and videos of a lot of shows I go to so that I actually WILL remember how good it was. This is such a boomer "phones bad waaahhh" mentality. Maybe say something about trying to limit phone usage, that makes sense, but outright banning them for even just a single video or a few photos is completely ridiculous.
