It's so bizarre that Birmingham employed him. This was the most 100% guaranteed outcome in football history. Literally every single person on Earth thought he'd be rubbish and get sacked. It's such an odd appointment.

@ShaunLevett I am a villa fan and I even said to my brother and my dad who are the blues fans you have just appointed Wayne Rooney, Good Luck he will get you relgated and he always has if it wasnt got Huddersfield keep losing, even they werent shocked by blues loosing game after game after Rooney said his mission is to get blues promoted and be in the Premier League first time round after that it was always going to go downhill. But my dad and brother said Rooney will get then relgated and why they appointed him in the first place when they weren't too bad and in the play offs🤯🤯 and they want Rowett back. Never know Birmingham can get Lampard now😂 but Birmingham City wanted a big name and backfired

Yeah but does Eustace want to come back? I mean the team is in freefall, 14 points behind a playoff spot, I'd imagine morale is in the toilet and there will be no trust with the board. He comes back and he's on a hiding to nothing. He gets relegated he'll be sacked and has that on his resume. He keeps them up it's almost guaranteed he'll never be backed by the board. He better negotiate a hefty termination clause and significant transfer funds to even think about it

Rooney, Lampard, Gerard. Great players, but just like everyone else, they need to coach at a lower level and work their way up. Cook, as the CEO should have known Rooney was not up to the job and never appointed him. I can't believe that any football club owner/CEO in their right mind could hire someone like Wayne Rooney. [what is this obsession with 'ex-players' - and that they will suddenly become accomplished managers?!?] Lampard, Gerrard and Rooney are utterly inept - yet some clubs are still prepared to 'gamble' on them! I obviously don't know Wayne Rooney personally, but he always comes across to me has an extremely poor 'communicator'. [ie: he can't string a coherent sentence together]. I would have thought that this is an essential skillset for any manager. However, the single most glaring takeaway from Rooney's appointment [and subsequent sacking] is that Rooney's incompetence is only surpassed by that of Birmingham City's CEO.

Sir Bobby Moore, Sir Bobby Charlton great players, much better players than Rooney, Gerrard or Lampard could not do it as managers so why do people think Rooney, Gerrard or Lampard could do it. What's more when those older great players took their step inti management they didn't go to big names they were willing to start at the bottom and work their way up. Owners need to realise that great players (with a few exceptions) don't make great managers. Much of their ability as players was god given talent and they simply didn't have to think about the game it came naturally. Great managers tend to be students of the game they live and breath it and want to know all about it and that is what club owners should be looking at.

How were Moore and Charlton much better players than Rooney, Gerard and lampard? Also ex players don’t make great managers? Like clough, Keegan, dalglish, zidane and Guardiola you mean?

@@garylago9123 Well lets see both Moore and Charlton won world cups to start with. They didn't play a huge number of international friendlies to get their cap or goal numbers up. Clough a great player, you're having a laugh. Never played in the top league and no top clubs were interested in him, got two caps in friendlies and didn't score then never chosen again. Was Keegan a great manager what did he win? As I said with a few exceptions most great players don't make great managers. What did Klopp or Mourinho ever do as players? Alex Ferguson wasn't much of a player but look what he achieved as a manager.

@@stephenhodgson3506 yes Moore and Charlton won a World Cup on home soil. Rooney until Kane was all time top scorer in pretty poor England teams. I wouldn’t choose any England midfielder in front of gerrard. He single handedly dragged Liverpool to the champions league against ac Milan. Clough has the best goal to game ratio of any player ever and managed Nottingham Forest!! to two European cups!! Keegan took over a struggling Newcastle and won the second division, made them the most exciting team in the country and came within a whisker of winning the premier league. He also won the second division with man city. And you don’t mention dalglish who won liverpools first double, zidane and Guardiola.

@@garylago9123 So you class a player as great because of what he did in one match and if Gerrard was so good how come he failed in every World Cup and European championship he played in? Then disregard what Moore and Charlton did because it was on home soil. You seem to forget that England were the only side to give Brazil a game in the 1970 world cup. Brazil failed to win a World Cup on home soil with great players. Rooney 53 goals in 120 matches as a forward, Charlton 49 in 106 matches playing primarily as an attacking midfielder. Oh an Rooney got 1 goal when it mattered in World Cup Finals. Bit like Kane who scorers many of his England goals against the so called lesser nations. Clough played all of his football in the second tier of English football and based on the comments of his former colleagues did nothing else but stand around the goal hoping to score while letting the rest of the team do all the other work. Where you score matters as much as how many you got. Possibly a reason why no First Division (Premier League ) club was interested in him. Oh and while Clough was a manger he failed without Taylor. Then you mention Keegan's second division titles what happened when he was subject to the pressure of a real title race? answer he buckled. Oh and I did mention the other three in the comment 'with a few exceptions'.

@@garylago9123 oh I forgot to mention that at the same time you say you class Gerrard as the best England midfielder you then say Rooney was a top scorer in pretty poor England sides. Rooney and Gerrard played most of their England careers in the same side. Just how can Gerrard be good but be a part of a poor England side? Also in that England side were Cole, Lampard, Terry, Ferdinand. In fact they were known as 'The Golden Generation' I've never heard a pretty poor team called a Golden Generation before.
