Sometimes things just don't work out. That was my experience with CREAVE Blemish Control Cleanser. Rather than reducing breakouts it created them. HOWEVER just because something didn't work for me doesn't to mean it won't be beneficial for you. If you have used this and found it great, let me know! The same if it was negative. Leave me a comment!

I use this and despite very sensitive skin I never had any issues. My skin loves it and I've had lots of issues on the past with cleansers. I have to say that you should always shake this cleanser before using it, which to me indicates that some ingredients can deposit in the bottom of the flask and that might increase the risk of irritation.

I’m relieved that I’m not the only person who’s had a negative experience with this cleanser. I used it for 6 weeks really trying to give it a fair chance, but sadly it left my skin looking red, irritated and I now have scars from the spots I developed. I LOVE the Cerve moisturiser and will forever be a fan of it but not the cleanser.

Former esthetician here with very sensitive skin. I've found my best results with mild soap and water. I know soap is a dirty word in the skin industry, but this has been my honest experience. My skin just doesn't like being bothered. I'm now 59 and get compliments on my skin everywhere I go. But as you said, everyone's skin is different. I just feel like the less you mess with it the better, unless you have a condition that needs to be treated by something, such as acne.

I've tried, to save money once 😁. My skin hates all soaps I've tried, even Dove. I like the Cera Ve hydrating cleanser and hydrating oil foaming cleanser so far. Haven't tried the one he used here but generally salicylic dries me out and makes me sensitive too but glycolic doesn't so use those alternatively. Has been good so far with other products to keep me skin working well. Former beauty therapist here too. Thank you all! Do NOT confuse the two!* 😉 CLEAR Colored “DAILY CLEANSER” is the Winner! Hopefully this helps.

We just don't know all that is in a product. Frankly, I would like tonus only European products or American products that declare that they submit to EU standards. And still there is so much unknown. I just saw a inheritance youtuber say it was sy.... acid that was too strong and making the break out worse. Then there is the whole plastic leaching into the products and altering the chemical state of the product. Plastic comes from petroleum products. Also many of the skin care, make up and medicines should never be stored in the bathroom. I bring mine to the bathroom in a dorm caddy. I think the FDA has only banned 11 ingredients whereas the EU has banned 1200 ingredients. If I'm in a hurry and need it NOW then I grab NO. 7 products (you can find them in Walgreens)

Get a prescription go for Metronidazole gel. My husband and I both developed rosacea in our 50s and the dermatologist gave us a prescription for it. It cleared up the redness and the pimples in no time. We continue to use it whenever our faces seems to be getting red again. Azelaic acid might help the redness but I don’t think it will work for the pimples that may also develop. You might try some mild products developed for babies if your skin is super sensitive to things in face wash. Good luck.

I love this. “Dermatologist recommended” is such a thrown out there term! If you listen to dermatologists they do recommend things but it’s usually with a bunch of caveats for different conditions and cases when they would say-don’t use it! CeraVe products never worked for me until after menopause. Now I am currently enjoying one of their sunscreens and my skin can handle the thickness! Personally, I find cleansers with saylicic acid to be too stripping for me, even during the teen years.

Salicylic Acid when you're on Tretinoin has to be used carefully and sparingly. The brand isn't to blame... you're overworking your skin. But if I use an SA cleanser too often or in the evening before I apply my retinoid I get these exact breakouts. I'm sorry this happened! I was a medical aesthetician for 22 years. My opinion is that your skin type is super sensitive to salicylic acid. Looks like your skin got over dry, turned red with minor pustules. Your upper cheeks have little tissue to have enough sebum to create acne. You r so right it's so important to choose skin care products meant for your skin type. Your skin loves hydration ie, hyaluronic serum, vitamin C, peptides.

I am 62 with normal to still slightly oily skin, no wrinkles and very few, very light lines. I use the gentle lotion form of CeraVe, and sometimes the gentle foaming cleanser in the summer, with my Flawless cleansing tool. The lotion CeraVe cleanser cleans my face without stripping or making it feel tight. I’ve been using this one for about four years now, and am very happy with it. I also use a rose and glycerin facial toner from Heritage Store (or Heritage House, I forget), their Rose Water and Hyaluronic Acid facial mist, and serums from The Ordinary, and I’ve had such good luck with my skin care routine. Plus, I use Differen about 2 to 3 nights a week. CeraVe also has a retinol serum that I sometimes use when I’m out of Differen, and I like CeraVe’s tinted sunscreen. I’m so sorry that the CeraVe cleanser didn’t work out for you, Wayne. Maybe try a sample size of the lotion cleanser?

It's so weird how some products behave horribly on the skin! I bought the Elf Hydration makeup remover and got the same huge spots that took forever to fade away. Tried it twice with the same results and have no idea why it affects me this way. It's in the trash now!

Wayne, pores don’t get clogged overnight. It takes weeks for oil and dead skin cells to build up enough to clog a pore and cause a pustule. It is more likely that the salicylic acid was causing purging. That means the product was doing what it was meant to do; clean out your pores. The Paula’s Choice BHA liquid does the same to me when I haven’t used it in a while. I welcome all the debris coming up usually in the form of tiny pustules. It is highly unlikely that this product is clogging your pores.

I second this. You are supposed to give a product 2 full weeks unless you have a severe allergic reaction. After 2 weeks, it should slowly clear up. I was always taught it takes time for your skins to adjust to the different ph level created by new products. As a rule I give someone one full month to see how my skin adjusts. I have extremely sensitive skin and I'm 44. This method of testing always works out.

Salicylic acid cleansers on dry skin can dry you out even more and may create more issues with your skin (irritation, redness, increased breakouts). Switch to a gentle cleanser and save the SA cleanser to 2 or 3 times a week. As an Aesthetician, I always prefer my clients use gentle cleansers and then use serums as correctives and preventatives.

Sorry to hear that people are going through this. I have been using CeraVe Face Renewing SA Cleanser, (Salicylic Acid Cleanser) for over a year now, and my face hasn't had one breakout. I normally have decent skin, with occasional breakouts, but this product has been great for me.

I recommend all Vanicream products. I have severe perioral dermatitis that can be triggered by almost anything, especially chemicals and emollients. Perioral dermatitis is closely related to rosacea so it’s not something you want to trigger it or mess with. Vanicream cleanser is so gentle and works really well. Same for their moisturizers. I recommend this brand for anyone with very sensitive skin. It has none of the usual chemicals that trigger reactions.

The only Cerave products that have worked for me are their hydrating ones. But even then, they aren't anything special. I have a sensitivity to SA too. My favorite brand of skin care is Elemis (their procollagen line). After that, Farmacy, then Olehenriksen. I'm a mature woman with oily skin that is blemish prone and enlarged pores in my t-zone. I am using a prescription Tretinoin (.025%) from my dermatologist (rather than a subscription service) and I experienced purging when I first started using it a year ago. I think I'm ready to up my prescription strength. I'm so sorry to hear that you experienced breakouts with this product and am glad you shared your experience with it.

They have a foaming SA cleanser (not the hydrating) that doesn’t say blemish control. It says for normal skin, but it has SA. My boys and I all use it (14,19, 22, and 55F) and we love it. Blemishes clear easily, the more sensitive boy is fine, I see reduced hyperpigmentation. We’re all European redheads to varying degrees, in a temperate US upper Midwest climate. For what it’s worth. Using softened water and PM lotion from CeraVe. It’s been about a month.

No cleansers really irritate me although many moisturizers do. I can't use a lot of them because they sting (I use actives often). CeraVe's moisturizer isn't good for me but the cleanser isn't that good. I like Native and La Roche-Posay. And as a matter of fact, The Ordinary's lactic acid breaks me out. Ramble aside, I am glad I have been subbed to you for so long, Wayne. You are a KZbin and beauty staple, you have taught me so much about makeup technique and application.

I have sensitive skin, and I've never had an issue with any of the Clarins products I've used. My skin currently loves the Gentle Renewing Cleansing Mousse, and it's so convenient for the shower. I've had pretty bad reactions to Garnier products too. As I've moved around the world into different climates my skin went from oily in the UK, to dry in New Zealand and finally now sort of combination in California. It is amazing how much my skin has changed and how the products I use had to change too.

I’ve been using this cleanser and it works for my skin. I started using it because I do have acne and the CeraVe Benzoyl Peroxide one wasn’t clearing it enough. So now, I’m switching back and forth between them in my morning and night cleansing, and I’m see my skin clear up even more. However, you have to be very careful with what active ingredients you’re using in your skin care + in cleansers, they don’t always play nicely - especially if you have sensitive skin or a damaged skin barrier.

This is a great video and its important to realize that a bad product for one person is the best product for someone else. I'm an esthetician and cannot stress how unique everybody is. I have a client who can take the strongest acids for exfoliation without issue but broke out at home using a gentle cleanser designed for sensitive skin. Some people cannot tolerate anything with fragrance, some people are allergic to benzoyl peroxide, a lot of people misuse products. Also, skin can change in terms of tolerance as we age!

I haven’t tried Cerave. I will say though, that I bought Youth to the World Superfood because a bunch of influences swear by it and it was very drying to my skin. After everyday use, it caused some redness to my skin. I have perioral dermatitis, hormonal breakouts and dark spots. I was desperate to find something that would work. I will say most of their products are fantastic, but maybe not for the most sensitive of us even though they brand it as good for all skin types. I even used the other recommended products within the brand and they were either too greasy or just meant more to help with wrinkles than to calm sensitive skin. I bought Drunk Elephant cleaning jelly and that.. did not irritate my skin, but it did not protect my barrier. My skin felt drier than I would have liked it to have. It didn’t feel like whatever it had in it was cleansing deeply or had any long term hydrating/protecting qualifies. Sometimes when a product aims to address all issues, it doesn’t address any of the most relevant ones. And it was too expensive. 4:37 I really like Peach and Lily though! First aid beauty isn’t irritating, but it isn’t my favorite.

The one thing it did was make the skin around my eyes a wee bit dry. I’ve always found it a hassle to avoid that area completely. So I stopped using that one. Now I use the Cetaphil cleanser, and I love it. It’s gentle and I can use it anywhere. It just cleanses without any dryness.

Just a thought...have not used this, do use all the other cerave cleansers, all good. But... the one here has hectorite clay in it, which draws out impurities rather quickly. ii've been using bentonite clay in healing baths for months due to an unexplained hives inflammation...and it got worse before it got better, as the clay drew out histamines and other cooties, leaving no further scars or itches. Methinks this is too strong for some regardless of short application time, and/or was getting buried crud out from deeper dermis layers.
