You are a brave soul to cut that by hand. I am spoiled with my cnc plasma cutter. I did something similar. I worked for a company that sold artificial fireplaces that used cans of sterno for the fire. I made a dragon head out of perforated steel rolled it and put the sterno inside. It looked like a fire breathing dragon. The head was pointing up and the mouth was open. Thanks for the video!!!!!!!😃😃😃😃😃😃

LOL, yeah it was pretty tricky and I'm glad I was smart enough to practice a bit before attempting mine. There is a definite loss of detail with the plasma cutter but moving fast helps a lot and not trying to get every little line helps. I played with the different cutting tips too to see which one was easier, I went with the non shielded tip. That dragon fire pit sound cool and right up my alley. Yeah I wish we had a CNC plasma or laser, maybe in the future. Thanks for the watch!

@@wayofthewrench I tell people that cutting free hand with a plasma cutter is like drawing with a big fat crayon. You just can not get the detail. With the CNC it is better but if the lines are to close they will melt together. If you lived closer, I would give you a CNC. I bought it as a backup. It has a 24" table just like my first one. New but never used.

Yeah that's a good explanation....a big wide crayon. CNC is the boss! My old job was everything CNC but now I don't have one. Maybe next year I can figure something out for the shop. Dude...that would amazing except I live in the great white north. Shipping alone would be brutal.....where are you in the world?

Very nice project. I have neither a plasma nor a wire feed welder but similar principles can be used on a silhouette fire pit where a regular stick welder and acetylene torch can be used. Albeit I would have to take to a welding shop to get it rolled.
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can definitely adapt this project to suit what welding equipment you have. Even the rolling can happen if you have a large pipe or round object that you can clamp your material to and hand form it around. You'd be surprised how thick you can bend this way. Thanks for the watch!

Yeah that could have been easier to follow my template but it was still hard to not lose the details as it was a bit too intricate. in the end, it turned out amazing and is part of my living room decor. Thanks for the tip and the watch!

Why do you put the clamp on the edge of the table?
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench 2 жыл бұрын
The ground clamp? As long as the table is electrically conductive, you can put the ground clamp anywhere on the table or the work piece. You also don't want to cut through or damage the ground clamp with the plasma cutter/MIG welder. Thanks for the watch!
