Ways to EXHAUST Zelda BOTW, before TOTK releases

I’ve not put myself through the combat-heavy accomplishments. Some rather wholesome ones that I’ve done are: walking the entire coastal path (where possible), and talking to every NPC in the game. I didn’t realise how many great hints and character elements are hidden in obscure non-quest giving NPCs. 💚

I'm less focused on exhausting breath of the wild and more focused on completing skyward sword since it seems like tears of the kingdom will have some heavy connections to it.

Heck it seems like it’ll have heavy connections to all the 3D zeldas….minus Majora’s Mask. BUT yeah it seems Skyward sword is the biggest. Maybe this is a trilogy after all lol. SS, BotW, then TotK.

For me, my challenge started a few days ago, but I’m playing the game (again) from start to finish. Doing all of the Divine Beasts, getting all Memories (most of which I obtain on the way), unlocking the full map, getting the Master Sword, doing all 120 Shrines, getting just enough Korok Seeds to fully expand my inventory, then doing the Champion’s Ballad, and then fighting Calamity Ganon. This is all on a separate file, since I don’t want to restart my main one. If I still have time, I’m going try and finish the last Trial of the Sword section on my main file since, yes, I still haven’t done that. My goal is to get all of this done before Tears of the Kingdom releases.

The reward for 900 koroks isnt the one Hestu gives you, it's just the feeling of acomplishment. What it's important to understand is that it's a good thing when a game doesnt reward completionists with anything significant, otherwise their achivement would simply be considered a key part of the game, given that if a player doesnt do it they are missing out on content. Nintendo doesnt want to make any player feel obligated to finding all 900 koroks, but they acknoledge when someone is dedicated enough to that pointless task

Well yeah, but the thing is, the reward has to be something, there has to be some reason to do it other than just to say you did. Take the shrines for example, when you complete every shrine you’re rewarded with an armor set that, while not significantly useful, is super nice to have after beating all the main puzzles the game has to offer. I think it’d be much better if Hestu gave the payer a Korok armor set, and maybe it gives you a lot of stealth or smt, that way it’s a nice, useful piece of armor, but it isn’t exactly necessary, or even super good to have. It’d essentially be the kind of thing that only completionists care about anyway, so having it given for getting Korok seeds just makes sense.

I am normally a completionist in video games but stuff like all koroks and all bosses were arbitrary challenges that the devs only added for completionists. They clearly dont expect people to collect 900 koroks, they are so numerous so you would always be able to find an amount that allows you to upgrade your inventory slots. That being said next time I play it which will be after TotK I might actually go for it and make a super meta 100% save as it will definitely be the last time I play it.

Yeah, Koroks were like the Gold Skulltulas in Ocarina of Time, they added more than you needed so most people could get the good prize while giving a token prize for getting all so people who didn't wanted the chore of getting all of them won't be missing a good reward. I particularly have fun finding the Koroks, but I'm a crazy old hag that knows the map so well I can recognize where screenshots of the game are taken xD

@@Mari_Izu I only really go out of my way to fully 100% a game when I know I wont want to play it again after I 100% A game like BotW, well any zelda game I will play again. Not that I have not ever 100% zelda games before. As for BotW I know I will play it again, I have fully explored the map and completed it 3 times before, just I wont play it again for quite a while after playing TotK . Next time I think I will actually 100% it and do everything (on normal) and have a true meta save file with everything, as well as all the duplicated and durability transferred weapons. Then if I ever want to play it from start to finish again I will have master mode. Or I might do it the opposite way and fully 100% master mode as normal mode is better anyway.

I’ve done a three heart run on normal and master mode, I’ve completed all shrines on both as well, and I’ve maxed out my inventory slots on normal mode and I’m only a few away on master mode. I’ve completed the trial of the sword on both difficulty settings multiple times. I tried getting the kilton medals but I can’t seem to find the one Hinox I’m missing and I’m not moving on to the talus’s until I’ve found the last Hinox. This game is massive, but TotK makes it look like an unfinished project, so I am very much looking forward to exhausting everything this new Zelda game has to offer.

I've already played through all of BotW like 5 times already with all DLC, and some of those runs on Master Mode. And a couple of those were all the way to 100%. I think I've gotten my money's worth and exhausted it enough to be ready for TotK lol

Since I personally play 99% on Handheld, I never completed the one shrine you showed at the beginning of the video (the one with motion controlls) And I attempted finding all the koroks, but I gave up around korok 500 since afterwards I can't use the seeds for anything anymore... And the freaking fire and ice taluses are so annoying to fight imo even with fire + ice arrows. I just really dislike fighting against them xD

When I finished my normal mode file 100% on this January, I decided to start a new game on master mode and complete it, and I think I can make it, I currently have one Divine Beast left, a few hundreed koroks left, whiped all hinoxes, 2 moldugas left, like 4 stone talus left, only have to do a few sidequests, defeat Ganon, and complete the Champion's ballad (After this I got a Tears of the Kingdom ad lol)

Idk if I should worry that I already did all of that (and also twice for the korok seeds, quests, shrines, dlc and mini bosses with normal and master mode)... For real though if you have dlc and want a crazy challenge try the trials of the swords in hard mode, the first one is the 'in Ohio' mode.

I've devised a challenge that both my friend and I are doing, which is getting 100% starting on April 12 and finishing on May 11. Neither of us have ever gotten 100% before so it's a pretty daunting task, but we're following a route I found and breaking it up so that we stop after 30 koroks each day. So far that's been resulting in approximately 2.5-3 hour sessions which makes it feel quite a bit more manageable. That said we will definitely have some longer ones, today we're going to be heading to Zora's Domain and finishing Vah Ruta so I have a feeling this is going to be one of the long ones 😅 Edit: Update I just finished for today. It took me 5 hours, this is a HUGE challenge 😅

I have 30 koroks left and honestly it feels impossible to complete it without looking at a pic like you provided. But I hate to do that because I’ve come 870 without any help.. might just have to live with that 98.8%. One other task I haven’t completed is getting the last horse piece by hitting all balloons on the horseback archery game. I think sidequests should have been included on this list!

Personally I've been using an online map for the korok seeds as they let you mark the ones you've already found. I had to find and check all the 600+ I'd found so far which can take a while but it makes finding the remaining ones a lot easier

I started a second playthrough in January. Main focus is 120 shrines, as I only got 104 in my first playthrough. I'm at 116 currently. I have no interest in all 900 koroks, but am concerned with exploring every crevice of the map and getting as many Koroks as I can while doing so, I'm at close to 600. Also trying to do all side quests, unless it's a really stupid one, like the one with the kid in Hateno Village where he wants you to show him a bunch of different weapons.

The Weapon Connoisseur side quest actually gives one of the highest value rewards in the game if my memory serves me right. 620 rupees total and a diamond, also near the end of the quest you have to find some pretty decent weapons that are just nice to have in your inventory anyway. I think it’s a great side quest and was well worth my time lol I can see why people wouldn’t like it though cause it’s basically just a massive fetch quest (but every Zelda game needs at least one of those).

I’ve done 450 koroks (you only need 445 for all upgrades), and I do NOT recommend doing all 900. It’s just hours and hours of sitting in your room, looking at a video of all the locations, and teleporting to the places to do the koroks. It is NOT fun. I only did it because I had the flu. So unless you’re too sick to move, don’t do it.

I wasn't aware of the completion of the mini-bosses and the medal given by Kilton. Perhaps I work on it before ToTK releases. However, I'm not going to tempt the 900 Korok seeds, not worth the rewards that comes after. As far as that, I've done all the others, including the ones not mentioned in this stream: (1) all sidequests, (2) master sword trials, (3) champions ballads, (4) max upgrades on all armor, (5) collection of all armors including one in the DLC, (6) 3 divine beast, and (7) recover all lost memories.

I’m probably still going to be going through Botw LONG after totk releases, because I just only got the stone talus metal to complete my metal collection, and I need to complete my hyrule compendium, but even THEN, I still want to 100% the DLC as well (and this is without even mentioning that I want to do the same with Age of Calamity). In short, I have way too much on my plate when it comes to Zelda.

As for meat swords I think fusing weapons might only be for fusing with other weapons or some materials I wasn’t to sure about being able to fuse swords and shields the same way you do with arrows but I would love confirmation on that

Geniun question : I'm In the minority I know. But I haven't played BOTW at all ! (I finished every single Zelda games but BOTW) . I'm a huge Zelda fan and yet I haven't even touched BOTW. But anyway... Here is my question : Honestly is it a good or a bad idea to start breath of the wild right now ? Cause I feel like it's kinda " too late " ... I already pre ordered TOTK and I'm afraid i get burnt out on Zelda if I do a whole month of power gaming throughout BOTW before TOTK releases.... Should i power game BOTW or just wait and start with TOTK right away and then later play BOTW ?

WTF, huge zelda fan but you haven't even played the most recent and best selling zelda game. Doesn't sound like you are a fan at all. Seeing TotK is a direct sequel to BotW, you would be foolish to play it before BotW. Plus powering through BotW is a stupid ides too as the slow exploration of the game is what makes the game great. Your best bet would be to play BotW now, play it slowly, which would take you close to a month if you explore it. then take a months break, then play TotK I do not suggest playing BotW then Totk back to back. It will burn you out.

I was in your position minus playing every Zelda game. I've been a fan but hadn't touched BOTW until 3 weeks ago, and honestly I'm having a blast. It's not like the other titles in a good way. It's super fun to the point I played it nonstop on a 5 hour flight, so I'd say it's worth.

For me it's never too late, but be aware it's different from past Zelda games' formula. While I love BotW and I'm a huge Zelda fan that keeps defending BotW is a good Zelda, I understand why a lot of people didn't liked to the point of calling it "not a Zelda game". But it's the kind of game you'll only know if you'll like or not when you play, so go ahead and start Breath of the Wild and I hope you enjoy your adventure! As a direct sequel in the same world, I feel like you'll miss a lot of context if you play TotK before BotW.
