G'day guys, hang in there!! " Nothing seals like steel" and "Nothing rusts like steel" there are crews and rust buckets sailing quite happily around the world and the strength of steel very rarely lets them down!! You will succeed, don't let go of your Dream Cheers and Best Wishes From Australia.

Thank You for your video this week. Hang in there. Just one day at a time. And befor you know it, it will be done. And I can guarantee you will look back at it and smile and say (Yes we did it) ! And the sailing well be that much sweeter. The truth about a Boat is she Demands a part of your soul. So working on her is the part of your blood sweat and tears. Your soul. The more you give her the more she will take. But she will take you to places you have never ben befor. She will give you memories you'll have for the rest of your lives. You will meet people that you well never forget. Do things you never have done before. So hang in there. It gets better. Ok until next week Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii!

I fully understand you getting upset with the task ahead there will be probably more holes as you investigate further. You are both hard working and you will have a fine steel vessel when completed. The wise owl in the tree was so cool looking over at you. Take care

Kind of disheartening finding all that extra work that is needed, but you both have broad shoulders, strong backs and a dogged determination to do "Pappa Rumba" proud. I know you and your vessel would rather be on the water, but when you are finished she will be in a far better condition than she was when first built. She will give you many years of sailing life.

Your videos are elucidating. As someone new to the idea of buying a small-ish (35-40 feet) steel sailing boat, they provide a good reality check.

I’m glad. We didn’t wanna be downers, but we don’t want people going into this kind of thing thinking it’s going to be a cake walk and then ending up in trouble
@be.side.schepop5 ай бұрын
Are you kidding? The bulwark piece is painful to follow, but it provides a list of weaknesses I can consider when looking for a boat. No downer! Your drive and persistence are inspiring. The Norman I am visiting next week does not have the same bulwark structure as yours, which is a relief. After researching different models and years, it seems that different builders built Van De Stadt's designs. This may provide a clue about the details, such as the absence of teak and the diversity of finishing on top of the bulwarks.
@WaywardLifeSailing5 ай бұрын
@@be.side.schepop glad to hear! Yeah they’re also custom built out of at least three different materials, so there is a lot of variation in certain design features and finishing. Also at least two different cabin heights etc etc. glad to hear you’ve found one without the bulwarks issue. That’s great to hear

Hey kids, when we are back home from cruising, take a break, come on up to the River City and dinner and drinks on us. We just may need the valves adjusted on our Lehman so we will throw in hotel accommodation. 😉

Been there done that. I find it is more of a mental challenge, to keep going when time lines keep moving away from me when all you want to do is go sailing. Unfortunately only the boat knows what needs to be done. That I think is the secret is to know all the unknowns at once I would have opened up the other side as well so I had the full extent of the problems in front of me. Upside is you will have full confidence in the boat. Giving your self time away every now and then to recharge and think through options works for me. As time lines move a away there is a tendency to work harder and longer. Best of luck

It’s so impressive that you’re proceeding after such a disappointing discovery. You’ve got the skills to do this. Since you have the welding and mechanical skills, maybe you can trade these for carpentry work when you need to put things back together.

Great episode guy’s, I really like your attitude regarding doing things properly Logan! Seriously mate! As for you Taryn 🤣, try not to get to emotional on camera, it make’s me upset that I’m not there to help😢, but hey, you’re as real as it gets and you can’t fake that so never mind me🤣, Unfortunate to see the lack of workmanship on the spray foam, that definitely isn’t done properly, it’s always hard when everything is covered with ply😡, huge respect for having the patience to remove what you can without damage. Once again, great episode, you guy’s are the best😉 Regards Brett

Feel so much for you two! What a ton of work. Have you seen Sailing Good Bad and Ugly? They ripped out the interior on a Pearson sailboat and did an amazing job with laminate and the rebuild. Maybe not the best "fit" for a boat that had a teak interior but they did have some good cabinetry tips. Hang in there!

Thanks! We will def check that out! We have some remodel plans that will make the boat work better for us than she did before we hauled out so it’s def not all bad

If I have learned one thing over the years it's that the more permanently affixed a piece is, the more likely it will need to be removed for any and every repair needed for the life of an item. 🤬 Every single time.
