Just like The Funk Brothers, we have to include these unsung ladies. Where would Motown be without them??🤔 Standing In The Shadows of Love, What's Going On, Love Child and Money are just a few of the many songs that fabulous Andantes sang background on, which I love. They had beautiful and tight harmonies. Thanks for bringing attention to these ladies. 💞🎶🎼🎶

And don’t forget the Originals, they were first a backup group than the Andantes did, and then a group of their own with their classic “Baby I’m For Real”, and the rest was history. Unlike the Andantes, the Originals did backup with many other Motown artists like Stevie Wonder and so on. And of course, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, who also did arrangements for all of their Motown hits that joined with the Funk brothers to their music. Motown brought over members of the DSO who was under contract with Mercury Records. DSO did put out a series of classical albums on Mercury’s “Living Presence” series during the 1950’s and 1960’s while Motown was doing overdubs at the time while taking a break from classics albums.

@@Musicradio77Network OMGsh! You named so many Unsung Motown artists! These are the ones Unsung needs to track down. That’s if Berry Gordy doesn’t have an issue with it. It seems like after Florence Ballard, there were no more Unsung artists featured.

The Andantes were a very underrated group, but they made their mark as background vocalist. Their contribution to the Motown Sound is very significant! I believe that the Andantes did the ending vocals on Marvin Gaye's "Mercy Mercy Me" track from "What's Going On". That track is my favorite track that the Andantes sang background vocals on!

Fascinating behind the scenes story at Motown. Have to credit Motown having them back up so many many songs, they really did make the music so unique. They really should have gotten more acknowledgement. I first really noticed their singing on The Marvelettes, When You’re Young and in Love, really amazing!

If their talents were utilized in "Reach Out, I'll Be There" by the Four Tops that is my favorite and that record is a masterpiece.. If not, I would say they sounded like angels on "Bernadette". I listen to some Motown almost every day. They are legends as far as I'm concerned. Bless their hearts, I wish HDH had offered them something better than" (Like a ) Nightmare", which was not up to the songwriters' usual compositions, and I wish Gordy had allowed them a few more singles to find the right producer but he was by then under the spell of Miss Ross. No matter.... their voices will be listened to until the world ends. They are bona fide legends.

I first came across LIKE A NIGHTMARE on 3 disc CD compilation. The side turned my life upside down! I played the track often and I played it loud! Asides from MOTOWN, many labels seemed to have great sides under their belts that fell short of company promotion. That's just sad, among other things. Too bad all kinds of in house politics and other goings on prevented greatness to be shared equally among record label mates. There exists to this day a treasure trove of exceptional unknown, unreleased sides that no one has heard. Gems all! It's about time somebody stands up and gives these standout performers & performances their due!

@michele462: A lot of gen x, gen z, millennials aren’t familiar with this history…However even some Baby-boomers didn’t know the Andantes were in-house band just as the Originals enhanced the background on ALL of Motown sound for each producer at Motown (e.g. HDH, Smokey Robinson, Norman Whitfield, Ashford & Simpson, etc)…Berry wanted an assembly-line mentality when producing a song with some mainstays (i.e. The Funk Brothers, Detroit Symphony, The Wrecking Crew, etc) were the necessary parts required to assemble his records…This was the genius of Motown….Just listen & research the personnel on every Motown record and undoubtedly you will find at least one or all the aforementioned included in every record…

Even their last hit song Someday Will Be Together, doesnt even have Mary Wilson or Cindy Birdsong on it. I always wondered why the later Diana Ross & the Supremes songs sounded so different. When I read her book I found out why. She said they just started bringing Diana Ross into the studio and didnt even bother calling her or Cindy Birdsong.
