You are spot on everything. Incredible job. I'm 72 and I was a professional drummer touring with many different artists through the 70's. In 1972 I had the honor of backing up the temptations at the jazz festival in Cincinnati. Mel Brown was their regular drummer why he had to fly home escapes me. Eddie and Paul were gone by then. They were God given sweethearts to work with. I became a temptations freak after that I've got a collection of temptations stuff I've been collecting for 50 years . Also your narrative skills are fantastic , you put your listeners at ease. Great job.

Memories! My friend girl dated Dennis years ago and through her I met the "Tall Tantalizing Temptations". That's what they were called. They invited me and her to Atlantic City to a supper club one weekend ,as they were popular then, front row center and sent us champayne and I got strangled, too bubbly, lol Dennis always called me 'his little sister' and bought me a pair of gold earrings which I still have to this day. I think the right decision was made not renaming the group David Ruffin & the Temptations. Not taking anything away from David, he was an extremely talented dude. But the Temptations were a group of very good voices. True David's talent was what was missing, but he joined a group that had outstanding vocal harmony and supporting vocals from Eddie, Paul and Melvin. They all made each other better. The proof being David's solo career, not the same without them.

Sorry for your loss sweetheart, my mother passed away two years ago. I'm 73, one of my fondest memory of her (we had 45's and a record player), was seeing her dance to the Temptations record...Beauty's only skin Deep. My father ( who couldn't dance to anything but slow music,) would sit and watch her shaking his head. 😅

The temptations was is and always be the greatest group ever. In every combination of the temptations was top shelf . I feel that Richard Street is one of the best vocalist ever, even though he didn't get that recognition, he was outstanding. They all were. There probably would be no baby boomers without the temps.

Great story love how u broke down each era! Only one thing I wish, I wish u shined a little more light on Eddie, even tho he had his faults he was a major major component jus as good if not better then David an David knew that that’s why they formed the own group an had the ballad “Lonely hearts club”.Both of them even had a unsung on tv one so that shows how important they where to the temps an Motowns rise. Get ready, girl why u wanna make me blue, the way u do the things you do, an jus my imagination 💭 was brilliant an nobody had topped his falsetto yet! An he had a good solo career ! RIP To the great EK! Keep on trucking ..

Facts...Eddie was definitely one of the main components to the Temps alone with David and Paul. All three was lead singers of the group. Eddie had an equally good career after the group. I also loved Eddie, David and Dennis group.

This is my group ya'll, listen, I have just about every Temps album then and CD now- except Meet The Temptations, Temptations Greatest Hits, Temptations Live!, Together Diana Ross & The Supremes w/The Temptations, Greatest Hits, Vol 2, and 1990. I can still remember some of the house parties in the '60s and the classmate of the house where the party was given would play the Temptations song "You'll Lose a Precious Love, with Melvin very subtly in the background. Then, "Darlin' Baby" by the Elgins would follow., leading up to "It's gonna take a Miracle" by The Royalettes... not Denise Williams version which is excellent as well. And who could forget Billy Stewart's "Sitting in The Park"! Boy oh boy, you talk about some slow jams, pretty girls, and fun- Now, those were the days my friend; a great time to be young and in high school! And yes, I'm in me 70s a grandfather now... with memories, sweet memories!

So good. I fell in love with Eddie at 5 yrs old. David was a great singer, even as a solo artist. But I don’t think he would’ve fit with their psychedelic sound. Dennis’ voice overpowered everyone in the group. But Whitfield found a way to make it work. My favorite was “Ball of Confusion”. That song was like church to me and I would play it everyday when I got up and testify to it at only 9 years old. Funny how that song still resonates in 2024!

I worked at this building in the late 1980's cleaning offices in the evenings, so I worked with this young lady for a few months. She did one part of the huge building and I did the other part, so one night we were just talking about life and a lot of things and don't remember how we got on this subject, but we started talking about the temptations for some reason, and she told me that Dennis Edwards was her father!! And Dennis was always my favorite singer in the group, so I was shocked!!!! I said to her for real?? He's your father girl?? She said yes...I'll show you my birth certificate tomorrow....I said ok. And when I took a look at her, she really did resemble him a lot. She brought it and yes it stated that he's the father😅. I never forgot that night, she told me a lot that night about her life with him. Yes, I'll always remember her working with me. She was very nice and funny as well.😂
