I played my first set at Tourniquet, it must have been one of the last shows before covid kicked off. 10 minutes, never played on a PA before so it was half feedback, one contact mic broke driving over. Was still insanely fun. Thanks Sam, Grant, Dan + all of the Minneapolis folks for facilitating the scene and being welcoming to new folks.

The reason lathes are expensive and super limited is that it's typically a one man operation cutting them in real time, so they can't sit there and do 100 of them. They are also made way faster than vinyl, which is the main appeal, but they should never be promoted as an actual vinyl record because that's not what they are...same with promoting a cdr as a cd.

Outstanding. Always good to hear Sam hold forth, his enthusiasm and love for the genre is inspiring.

I’m actually happy that you mostly release CDs, Sam. I grew up just as CDs were coming out, so I owned a lot of cassettes. But my teenage years was all about CDs. Even though I own hundreds of noise cassettes, I’d be happy if cassettes went away for good. Honestly, these days unless it’s a project I really love, I don’t buy cassettes anymore. CDs or vinyl, only, for me.

Nothing wrong with a ‘ good old’ cd. 1) Less expensive, 2)less vulnerable, 3)easier to mail, and 4)takes up less space in my ever expanding collection.

Baculum - ink fetish. It’s barely treated tattoo machine noise. Bought it to round out a Dead Gods order.

Venues "making" promoters pay for "liquor sales minimums" are usually just trying to scam inexperienced promoters, especially if the venue itself is not doing much marketing for the event. Otherwise the venue would simply just book whatever brings in the most revenue, instead of assuming some arbitrary "loss" some underground noise promoter must now pay. This is one of many ways venues scam promoters and artists.
