Nice video. One underappreciated thing about WCW at their height was how great their crowds were. I think one thing that hurt WCW in its dying days was that they lost that great crowd. It was not just the audio, but also the video. You will notice that WCW production worked really hard to avoid showing empty seats. I get it, but it really took away alot of angles from the in ring action.

Is the difference in ppv’s a difference in mentality do you think. WWF’s ppv felt like the culmination of storylines, a king was crowned, Austin and Shawn found their hate for the hart’s overshadowed any differences they had and the nation was defeated. The following raw felt like a new chapter as storylines began with a build to the next ppv while the wcw ppv felt very much like a continuation of a story in order to sell the next nitro. Benoit continues his feud, the horsemen continue to undermine each other, the outsiders won via controversy which would no doubt be address the next night, savage won due to outsider interference which guaranteed the war with DDP would continue, if you wanted to get any sort of closure you had to watch the next nitro. Both are good story telling, but they definitely see different outcomes at the end.

Really well said. Love that Japan based promotions like NJPW, TJPW, etc and non-WWE American promotions deliver on storyline payoffs while still having excellent match quality.

When wrestlers describe backstage fights in wrestling shoots: "So I threw him out of my dressing room, and punched him like a hundred million times, and Hulk Hogan and Macho Man and like 12 Green Berets tried to pull me off, and they had to send Robocop to stop me, but I gave Robocop some sweet knife-edge chops and he left with his tail between his legs, and it was all because the whole locker room was jealous that I drew so much money at the Omni!"

I noticed you have some WCW vs NWO N64 game music in the backround and it reminded me. Anyone who loved those games there is a game called wrestling empire. It is exactly like those games but with a randomly generated career mode. People can become paralyzed and die off. The customization with your wrestlers look and moves is unreal. It is the best wrestling game on the market by a long shot. Its on PC and nintendo switch, even a dated PC can probably run it. Anyone who reads this just go check out some videos on it or get it yourself.

In defense of Mongo, perhaps his foot massage/ankle lock was due to Kevin Green being a pro ball player. I mean, any other wrestler could pull off an ankle lock no problem, but they likely saw Mongo’s name on the roster and were like, “Hold on… how much insurance do we have?”

You have once again outdone yourself and I haven't even watched the video yet! The one thing I hated about WCW is that the commentators would spend 95% of every match going on and on about the nwo instead of calling the match in the ring. It always took so much away from the matches they were supposed to be calling. Did anybody else feel this way?
@Venemofthe8882 жыл бұрын
oh for sure its like if they dont care about the match then why should we and it honestly took away from everyone working so hard like not even acknowledging their work. It was just a shame the nWo dominated everything all the time and i can see why a lot of people got sick of it by 2000

It’s one of the reasons why guys on the undercard couldn’t get over. It’s the undercard guys that were the most exciting to watch, along with the cruiserweights. Them not getting properly over was a huge reason guys like Jericho, Benoit, Saturn and Malenko jumped to WWF in 2000 and Sean Waltman ended up back in WWF post Wrestlemania 14. The commentators made the guys on the undercard seem unimportant. Therefore fans had less reason to get behind them. They couldn’t get over. Although they were having great matches. They were having the same matches against mainly the same opponents all through the war. Where as on top for the main part the NWO was doing the same thing week in, week out. With Hogan on top. Which was very stale.
