as a old detailer for the past 44 years and a mechanic all my life I have made a lot of extra money on the side buying nasty old cars and trucks and cleaning them up and making repairs, I always clean them up first hate to lean over crud working on them and I always clean the engine bay up first before doing anything and like you I pull the wheels and tires off so I clean front and back. Love the videos keep up the great work.

I had to watch this again, brings back memories. Just like the red Z24 video today. I’ve had two Audi 5000, one 4000, one 100 and one 200. All second or third cars, some daily drivers and a couple like the 200 that were weekend cars. These cars were absolute tanks in all weather scenarios. My 87 Audi 5000 CSQ hauled 4 guys, skies, luggage and cases of beer up the mountains of VT in the blizzard of 96. Kept in 3rd gear and a steady pace to climb into a Killington ski resort, it made it on that 4 hour trip in a blizzard. What a beast of a car. Watching these barn find type videos and their transformations is not only satisfying and I’ve learned more about how to detail my cars but they bring back so many good memories. Great channel!

Almost 20 years ago i remember manual polishing it with old t shirts, i don't even think that microfiber detailing rags existed. Instead of wax, because it was really rare and expensive, i used diesel fuel for gloss. Man so manny memories that i almost burst into tears.

I'm English but have family in Belarus, and in our local village that we stay in a lot due to having a summer house there, the Audi 200's are very common. Don't actually know much about them but they must be reliable as every 5th car is a 200 in Belarus 💀. This Audi is so loved in Belarus that in our village a guy has had his 200 lowered on airbags, has some gold BBS rims (replicas i'm sure), a homemade exhaust system which sounds really good, and a matte black wrap and gold tint on his windows. It's awesome to see, and he did this with the equivalent of $450.

I believe these are factory BBS wheels. Should be a center cap with BBS logo. I had a 1988 Audi 80. Fantastic car. This looks to be a late 80s Audi 200. This was the top shelf version of the series. Definitely fix it up, service and paint touch ups. Rare car. They don’t build them like that anymore. It was meant to live. (Hello from Westlake!)

This was back when Audi wasn't really marketed as a luxury brand here in the US. They were kind of quirky German answers to Volvo. The Quattro was a funky sports car that didn't look like one but went like stink and tore up gravel roads. And they really downplayed their connection to VW at the time.

I had the same car! Mine was a 1990 silver with black leather. I bought it almost new in 91 and drove it 241,000 miles. Still looked and drove great when it got totaled. Pretty rare cars in the US. Very smooth and solid. I took good care of that car and it took good care of me. As with all German cars, maintenance was a little pricey but I had very few problems. Rebuilt the automatic transmission at 135K. Steering rack rebuilt twice. Cooling system worked fine but various rubber and plastic parts failed several times so keep an eye on that. Rebuilt the turbo once near 200K. Thats all the problems I can think of, some of which was just normal wear. General Motors supplied the air conditioning system and it worked great the entire time. Parts for that should be plentiful and not too expensive. The car spent it's entire life outside in southern California and the paint stayed beautiful. I did detail it fairly often. Same with the interior. Enjoy!

When I came back they couldnt review any relevant camera footage as the car was gone way before what the security told me that the recorder only held records up to 2 weeks. Back then that car was already such a rare sight. I'd give anything to just drive it one more day and relive all those happy times I had with that wonderful machine

That car has Bosch K-Jet / CIS fuel injection. It's likely that the fuel distributor is gunked up inside - this leads to inconsistent mixture between cylinders. Before running it much you'll want to make sure there aren't lean cylinders. Techron fuel system cleaner works well - and is the one VW / Audi recommended back in the day. Also, this car has a timing belt. Regardless of miles it should be changed every 6 years. If you find a bunch of the power accessories don't work, look for broken wires going to the driver's door. I found about 6 broken on my 5000 when I got it. The climate control system is sourced from Cadillac - so the same tricks of pushing multiple buttons to enter test mode works here. Only use the correct central hydraulic fluid in these - not generic "power steering" fluid!! It will make everything spring leaks. There is a pressure accumulator for the brake booster - it runs from the power steering pump. If this is bad you might see a pressure alarm on the car when you start it, and with the car off you'll lose power brakes right away. You should get several good pumps of the pedal if the accumulator is working properly. When you install the battery be sure to hook up the vent line - otherwise gasses from the battery will rust the interior!

Well, not my favorite Audi, but you guys did a fantastic job cleaning it up...looks very good, and you got it started...bonus!
