first ,great tempo. but i was thinking: a quartett setting provide way more precision - the time value especially before the breaks gets lost due to acoustic setting

I tend to agree with Steven J, but for a different set of reasons. The music , like most opuses beyond mid-20th century, is rather transparent and lacks structure, which is not related to its genesis as a piece for string quartet. This piece is like a bad dream or bad drug trip, where it's not possible to know whether any of the instruments are playing the correct notes. Avant-garde types probably fawn over crud like this... but it's still atonal trash.

According to Shaw’s score, it’s in Menuet and Trio form.

It definitely has an ABA structure. It's a beautiful piece that uses tonal elements in a nostalgic way. It isn't avant-garde, but it does have more emphasis on texture than a traditional piece. It really is quite beautiful and maybe that's enough for a short piece.

I don’t know - I think some of this is quite ravishing - especially the opening repeated chordal figures that lead to harmonic suspensions.

Personally I don’t think this orchestra has the best interpretation of the piece. You might prefer the string quartet recording
