MOON TOWNSHIP, PA - Brandon Noel's potential game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer was waved off after review, and the Wright State men's basketball team fell 75-72 at Robert Morris Sunday afternoon in Horizon League action.
Wright State (9-9, 3-4 HL) now returns home to take on Purdue Fort Wayne inside the Nutter Center on Wednesday night.
On Sunday, Noel pulled down an offensive rebound and had a putback layup with 24 seconds remaining to tie the score at 72. After a timeout, Robert Morris (11-7, 3-4 HL) regained the lead on an Amarion Dickerson basket and then Dickerson hit one of two free throws after a Raider turnover. With just over a second remaining, Wright State's inbound pass traveled three-quarters of the length of the floor before Noel caught it in traffic and connected on the shot attempt, but after review the ball was still in his hands at the horn to end the afternoon.
Robert Morris tallied 10 of the first 12 points to jump out to what turned out to be its largest lead of the afternoon before the Raiders answered back to go into the locker room knotted at 34-all. The second half continued to be a back-and-forth battle to set up the final segment.
Noel finished with a game-best 16 points to lead four Raiders in double figures, adding nine rebounds, four assists and a block, while Andrew Welage turned in a season-high 14 points off the bench as he connected on four three-pointers. Jack Doumbia filled his stat line as well, notching 11 points with six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Keaton Norris was the final Raider in double figures, tallying eight of his 10 points in the first half thanks in part to a pair of three-pointers, while he added three assists and two steals. Michael Imariagbe chipped in seven points and six rebounds as eight Wright State players overall found the scoring column and recorded rebounds.
Wright State shot 42 percent overall (26-of-62) and connected on seven three-pointers (7-15, 47 percent) while Robert Morris finished at 46 percent overall (25-of-55) and hit six three-pointers (6-19, 32 percent). The Raiders were 62 percent at the free throw line (13-of-21) and RMU was 70 percent at the stripe (19-of-27).
Robert Morris saw five players tally double figures and combine for all but seven of their 75 points, led by Alvaro Folgueiras with 16 points and 15 points from Josh Omojafo.
