You feel for the mother who had to leave due to domestic abuse. Again, however, how is this the problem of the United States or any State in the United States of America. There are actually some countries in the world where domestic abuse is far worse and sometimes beyond anything you can comprehend. She lived in also a major city in mexico. Are you telling me she couldn't have received help from the many of women agencies and women with men that I know could have helped her? Instead she ran and crossed the border illegally taking untold risks with her children. Does this make any sense? The mother didn't come here for economic reasons, yet she came here and took a job that another poor immigrant or american desperate for work would have done. How does this help our country exactly.

I doubt any one in her position would have chosen to put less effort in her studies simply because it was “unfair” to everyone else. I don’t know about you, but I would have done everything possible to make my parents’ efforts worth something. Although immigrating illegally is not something that I support, anyone having extreme sentiments towards these people must at least acknowledge that the past of this country in relation to Mexico is not something to be proud of. Just because you happen you to be an American, it does not mean that you deserve the right to “be protected” form the rest. If anything, Mexicans should be quite angry for being called “illegal” in a place were they belonged, a place were they believed was their home.

Sadly more illegal immigrants in the US embody what it means to be an American than many of these people in the comments hating on illegals. Personally, I don't support illegal immigration, but realize even the government does. The government knows the location of many undocumented immigrants, but guess what, many of these undocumented immigrants actually pay taxes and as long as they pay taxes and don't commit a crime the government leaves them alone. These people are better than buisness and rich individuals that avoid taxes, they are better than a lot of "Americans" who just sit at home and collect money from the government, and then complains the government needs to give more.

And a lot of Trump supporters were quick to defend what he saying with majority using the excuse of Trump meant something else....but then literally 12 hours later, he says he actually was serious about using disinfectant but it was a "joke". Josiane Lessard I really appreciate your thought, it is very true that the media can distort reality, and one doesn’t really know a person until they get to know them. However, I don’t really see Trump himself as the true issue. Sure, he is the president, and has a big influence on people’s views and opinions, but like I said before, it’s what the media communicates that alters opinions. There are certain people who inhabit this country that have a distorted opinion on issues like this one a fail to acknowledge all sides of the picture. Trumps presidency is temporary, his actions are temporary, so really, it’s more important to think about how the country itself perceives the countries direction and treatment of other people. The law will never be perfect, so as long as we bring awerness, and delve deep into how things are truly handled (not what they are portrayed to be), then there will be a much more productive, educated, and also compassionate environment.

Throughout history, Spanish speaking peoples worked more in the farms than white people and were still wrongfully blamed for the great depression. Racism for old white adults always is the first instinct to justify themselves And not only is it obviously racist, but it is also stupid, arrogant, ignorant, and wrongfully brazen. Raphael Spector Raphael Spector in what world, valedictorian does not mean she will succeed in life, in fact that makes it more difficult to succeed in life, additionally I don't see many racist comments so I don't know what you are talking about, ilegal immigration is a problem, people should not be coming here without actually paying for it, it should not be a free ride, it should not just be given out that is not how immigration works, you don't get to just go wherever you want. Do you realize, that I graduated high school last year, and only now just got a job, because people who came here illegally, and people who were not american, were given priority over me, because people who came here are given priority over the people who were born here
@joet62556 жыл бұрын
^^^^ I don't think that she could realize anything about you if she doesn't know you. You're young and should not start letting assumptions run you life. One thing in life is that you should never assume. If you don't have the data to prove your claim, then you best not claim anything. By the way, statistics show that it is much easier to get a job while you are young. No one wants to hire them because they can do less than younger people. That's pretty basic understanding. You must live in a very small town, and if you don't, then stop feeling sorry for yourself and get a job. Someone will hire you, unless you have something bad on your record, and even then....there are still felon-friendly companies.

Undocumented immigrants, are people too. This is so true! I don't like most valedictorians, they are almost always some rich snobs who don't care about other people; however, this valedictorian is the rare exception, the student who both excels in academics and moral, I love this girl. she stands strong in front of a crowd and shows how someone who is less fortunate compared to the rest of us can do just as well or even better in academics. I'm sure if she is given the chance to stay in the US after she revealed she is undocumented, she will find great success in this country. Good job to her. She deserves to be called a valedictorian.

WHO'S CITIZENSHIP WAS THE RESULT OF A CRIMINAL ACT
@normal_person24 жыл бұрын
I came here when I was 12 and now I go to the University of Miami graduating with a bachelor's in political science and broadcast journalism. I was undocumented living with 3 other siblings and a single mother. I'm not a criminal, I'm a good student. I'm low-income, black and a woman. She's low-income, Mexican, a woman, and undocumented. I see a lot of her in me, and vice versa, in the speech she gave. I'm so proud of her for doing what she did because I had to live in the shadows until I got my citizenship which took YEARS. And I never had the courage to even consider to do what she just did. And she's doing so much better than any of us could even imagine. Yale?!?!? I'm shooting for Howard or TSU for graduate school maybe😅. She's so amazing. There are times where I feel I'm not good enough considering my race, gender, background, but this woman right here has trumped all of those negative thoughts. I may not be Yale good, but coming from what I come from, and seeing how great she's doing, I believe in myself a bit harder now. And to all the racists in the comments, you're just mad immigrants like herself took the opportunity to do something great with their residency in America. Learn a thing or two from brown people and stop trying to control us because of prejudice and unfounded hate. This speech was beautiful.
@guidancethroughgaia3 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you are doing great! You are good enough for who YOU are. I'll say this: it's not so much about the university as it is about the student. I'm more book smart than my older brother is, but he has more drive than I do. That's why he's gotten his Master's, even though he used to always get into trouble with the law, dropped out of high school, and couldn't keep a job. Meanwhile, I'm working on my BA and have been since 2009. We all go at our own paces, and as long as you persevere, you WILL succeed. I wish you well!

I was touched by her speech. She broke barriers and made something of herself as a valedictorian; regardless of her undocumented status. I am all for immigration and that's what America is all about. Americans tend to forget that THEY ARE ALL DESCENDANTS OF AN IMMIGRANT. If they take the time to reflect and explore their ancestry, they may discover hidden truths about their pasts. Immigrants came to this land, generations ago, in search of a better life. After hearing her story, that was precisely the reason why her family came here. Ignorant haters will continue to hate because they are insecure that an immigrant has done something better than they have.

So it’s taken seven years for her application to be processed and she’s graduated high school since then... what technologies and policies can we apply to make this a simpler process? And would living for that long in the country qualify her for permanent residency and then citizenship, meaning that her application could just be tossed into the circular file after that?
@charlsalvs93944 жыл бұрын
aycc-nbh72 The only way she could get a permanent residency is by getting a job offer and have that company sponsor her to get an employment visa, then in a few years she would be able to get her residency and citizenship. The other way is by marrying an American of course which is the easier way but the US unfortunately doesn’t care how many years you have been here, I know people who have been undocumented over 20 years and since they haven married they haven’t been able to get any kind of legal status
@aycc-nbh72894 жыл бұрын
