Speaking of one knob boosts, any experience with the fulltone 2b?
@sparkyguitar00582 жыл бұрын
It's funny. This whole thing is about BOOST. Yet most of these pedals are more than just a boost. Including mine, a Wampler dB-1. It's got a switchable buffer on the side. Its sort of a 1knob pedal. I actually don't use the buffer. And barely use the boost. Got 3 drives that can "boost" each other. Keep each gain turned down unless any song calls for it. Gain is noise and trying to keep that to the minimum.

Dan’s reaction when using the Heavy Water reflected my own the first time I plugged it in, and every time since to be honest. I absolutely *love* that pedal. Add a little camouflange to make the top-end glisten and sparkle, maybe some univibe for movement, and I’m gone for days. I think Thorpy should be considered for knighthood for services rendered to the human ear. Wonderful show as always, killer playing throughout! Can’t wait for the treble booster show now, that’s probably the next frontier for me.

A fun thing about the Paisley and other TS-derived soft clippers: due to the inherent clean blend, a clean boost into them not only saturates the driving portion further, but also punches through with a louder clean. You can hear it here, where there’s sort of a separation between loud attack and later heavy saturation. It’s sort of strange to my ear but great at the same time. I love taking a dirtier boost (like another overdrive/preampesque pedal) and cranking it through a Paisley for a complex and articulate yet simultaneously crumbling drive.

So that explains the, to my ears, unpleasant sound of the Blackstar into the Paisley. Thanks 👍 And that was the only unpleasant thing in this episode. Thanks guys yet again.

That intro was like gravy and Mick just sopped it all up with a biscuit! * in Southern Arkansas, biscuits and gravy are something completely more delicious that most Brits can imagine and completely different things than English biscuits and gravy. I just received a Pete Cornish TB-83 Extra Duplex Battery Free earlier this week, and tomorrow my Pete Cornish NB-3 arrives! I also have this single Pete Cornish TB-83 Extra that you have as well. Such an incredible pedal! It's worth mentioning that Pete designed the TB-83 extra to be stacked on top of an already in-line TB-83 that never turns off. The TB-83 extra at full "volume" is the same as the TB-83 in-line. You really need to get some more and start stacking them to increase the magic! The TB-83 was also specifically designed to be used with a Vox AC-30 channel without treble boost, so while trying it on different amps can be fun, it isn't really showcasing it at its best. Let's hear it with Dan's vintage vox on the regular channel!
@cobowe2 жыл бұрын
It’s basically a Silicon Rangemaster with a 3k frequency boost. There is no line driver/ buffer in the Tb83 or 9”83 extra

@@cobowe Correct, no buffer in the TB83 or extra. In fact, he recommends using them from guitar to TB-83 to amp. Since it's designed to have one always on, no buffer would be needed.

If anything, this exactly shows, why to run amps close to breakup and why boost after ovedrive is great idea. I understand, that someone who is running amp very clean with lots of headroom to spare might not be happy with boost after drives. But here, stellar. Clearer, more articulate. Just great sound.

Quick shout out to all using treble boosters-when I first got my A-man Beano Boost and jammed with it alone I thought man that’s pretty harsh… As soon as bass and drums are added and I’m in the band mix, it’s a all-around weapon. I can throw it in front of any pedal and any amp I’ve set up (which yes, is always edge of break-up) and it always sounds great. I use it as a solo boost, to add more gain to a sound & roll guitar volume off to cut in mix but sit behind vocals, to go from already-huge-wall-crumbing noises to bananalands feedback…it’s A+++.

As always, came for the pedals - stayed for the playing. Both in the mood to engage with pedals and it's magical. Please jam together more!! :) Excellent amp choices too. As far as boosts go, I can't recommend the Laney Steelpark boost enough. Multi-purpose gizmo, does clean boost, has a mid boost (TS Style) setting, a low-mid setting (fat), bass/treble controls and it stacks beautifully - into pedals, after pedals, into a clean or cooking amp. Does everything. Not to mention the excellent buffer it has. And it looks killer, comes in a lovely box, is built like a tank and it hovers around 100 bucks.

There's a reason I flank my preferred overdrive pedal of the moment with two clean boosts. The one before gives me more saturation, the one after gives me more volume. The whole lot goes into my Mesa/Boogie F-50 loaded with KT66HP tubes for even more headroom. When you're dealing with a high headroom setup like this, the two boosts don't need to be turned up very high to have a large effect. Generally speaking, I run my boosts probably in the +3 to +6 dB range at most, if they are even that high, the knobs just barely off the minimum stops by about 30-45 degrees, tops. Depending on the overdrive, I will run either two tc electronic Spark mini boosters or two One Control BJFe Granith Grey boosters.
