This concept has helped me alot when it came to arguing and debating with people about subjects that I felt I was right on. I rarely argue with anyone now and I find my relationships with others have improved alot with this one concept.

This hit such home for me. I had a father who dominated in conversations to the point where I couldn’t even speak or be heard. As an adult I’m constantly seeking validation from others. It doesn’t always have to be that they agree but I won’t stop until I hear someone say “I see your perspective but….” Or “I hear where your coming from but…” I feel that the opposing person can still have their opinion but my biggest thing is just to hear them say that they hear and understand me while still disagreeing. It’s still wanting and seeking validation that I need to work on
@rayart88
@rayart88 Жыл бұрын
I can see your point but...I think you're already on the right path of knowing your weakness and working towards fixing that validation seeking. So you should be proud of yourself! The hard part for most people is not even knowing what they need to fix. For me I need to stop procrastinating and finish the things I need to do...🤣

Get God's validation and love instead of your father's. Maybe you need to admit he will never ever give you the validation you deserve. I'm the same with my parents. They will never love or respect me so I don't care about their validation now, so I don't need anyone else's validation. Many people are stubborn and ignorant and don't care about your feelings. Sad but true. It brings a freedom.

I have found that I am very argumentative towards people nowadays. After being married to a narcisist for 3 years, and now divorced from them for 3 also, I dont like people and want to live on a mountain and just converse with God and my dogs. The truth will always be the same ! I like that. Jesus is MY truth and that's all that matters to me . I agree with you. What a milestone !

This is interesting concept. I noticed that I argue with my mom (and other people).. because I need their validation/approval. So it is some kind of insecurity. I will try to think about it next time when I will start arguing, thank you.

people have very misconceived notions about what's "harming" them imo. vast majority of people can be left alone, even with their "evil beliefs", and literally zero harm will come to you or anyone else.
@Katniss0000
@Katniss0000 8 ай бұрын
You are right to do so. some beliefs are really harmful like Rape culture for example. Where men think " They wear this kind of thing, they drinking. etc. means THEY ARE ASKING FOR IT." But arguing with which is better Pineapple pizza is better than normal pizza then you are wasting your time. the more you keep quiet or be neutral then you are just siding with the oppressor because it doesn't affect you. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse, and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.

I get complimented on my maturity alot so I'm gonna be the bigger person, when someone says something I'm not gonna argue I'm just gonna smile and nod cause I have no problem being wrong I don't feel human.

I tend to argue for everything and really it comes down to that insecurity, that hit of the ego, and not wanting to feel wrong. I’m watching this video now after having a massive argument with a friend about a stupidly unimportant topic. But this is probably the 5th or 6th time this has happened so I now feel that I should look towards myself for change. I think this video unpacked a lot the issue. I think I’m more on the side of people needing to agree with me. I find that knowing the truth isn’t enough and I more so care about people knowing I’m correct. I think he nailed it when he said that I might feel like less when someone disagrees with me. I hate these irrational feelings.

Mike... (that’s my sons name)this has really helped me. The truth will always be the same. Maybe it was my ego. I would get embarrassed when my in-laws would say and do certain things. I’m very tactful... but, safety gets me worked up; I.e. I’ll help you shingle your roof, let me show you how to put that new circuit breaker in, I’ll help you change your water heater( because your soldering sucks).... I’ll help with the bbq so you don’t put the cooked meat next to the raw meat on the same plate... I’m doing it again. The truth will always be the same.

There are people who can't live without drama and arguments. You can show them a million videos like this and they will not learn a thing. They will argue nearly everything that is true until their dying breath. Stupidity has a strong grip on its victims. The best thing you can do is stonewall them or get as far away from them as possible. I learned the hard way that these types of people are more dangerous than cigarettes and alcohol combined.

Really helpful advice on dealing with arguments, I'm definitely gonna think about your conversation when an argument is brought up in my life. Really enjoying your new mindfulness videos and I know a lot of your old followers want workout videos but l like learning about how to be better from the inside out and I look forward to more videos, Do you think you'll have a video discussing the topic "Rising from failures?" I recently got out of Art college with high hopes of being a amazing artist that would work at Pixar one day but after I graduated reality hit and paying student loans and my vision of future completely switch from being an inspiring artist to working a 8 to 5 40 HR work week just to pay rent, student loans, and trying to still enjoy life with the little time I have on the weekends. I wouldn't say my career is a failure per se but I'm not where I want to be at the moment and would love your advice. Thanks Mike for being an inspiration!

Answer? Silence. Some people just love to argue. When people feel down they want to feel better, so they think that shouting or arguing a point makes them win. Stupid. I've been around argumentative people. I just use silence. One person, whom I didn't mean to argue with, but started by calling me stupid, and then argued--even when I showed him he was wrong, went on arguing. He claimed to be right, even when a website I left a link to said he was wrong. I don't need to prove I'm right. People will have to answer some day for their behavior. Then, I know I'll be right.

There's a way to "challenge " someone without saying, hey, ur wrong! With the ease of looking stuff up, many times, we can find out in an instance who is right! So all yiu challengers , be ready with an apology if suddenly you 1, find out you're wrong. 2. Get pushed against the wall for an apology. Uh oh! Eating crow is a tough meal! Lesson learned here: before you challenge someone, you better look it up first! How about that!!!!????

I was just thinking about you yesterday. Haven't seen a six pack shortcuts commercial here on KZbin in a long time. I search I'm done with arguing, and there you were on the first video. Crazy.

My problem is that I'm really not qualified to argue about most topics because I'm not a scholar. I would just be parroting bits and pieces from media.

Hey Mike, These videos are a nice followup on the ones from SPS. Seeing someone grow both physically and mentally. An inspiration to many, probably. Also, Mike, you once recommended a book, called "The willpower instinct". I'm reading it as we speak and it teaches me a lot! Keep on growing and teach people what you learn along your journey!

Dang Mike you are so right! Seriously though, great video. One suggestion to consider, instead of just flat out agreeing and saying your right (which may be misleading to them and yourself), instead maybe try to honestly listen to them and say that you understand them?
